Monsignor Fernando Ocariz, Prelate of Opus Dei, visits the school

Yesterday marked a special occasion at Redfield, as for the first time in 15 years, The Prelate of Opus Dei, Monsignor Fernando Ocariz, visited the College! Don Fernando is the third Prelate of Opus Dei, and the successor of St Josemaria, the saint on whose teachings Redfield and the other Pared schools were built.

Don Fernando toured the school, stopping to greet students, staff and class parents along the way. He enjoyed looking at projects and listening to musical performances from our students, including some jokes in Spanish! A solemn moment was enjoyed by all as he blessed the new statue of Mary in the dam, as students sang the Salve Regina hymn in Latin.

In one of his addresses, he spoke about the importance of example when being a leader. He also reiterated the teachings of St Josemaria - that parents are the first educators of children, and to be saints, we must do the ordinary things extraordinarily well. We thank Don Fernando for his presence, his generosity and his wisdom, as well as all those who helped with this momentous occasion.
