On Friday, 16 May, Year 4 visited the Maritime Museum. There were many fascinating exhibitions, including the real HMAS Vampire warship, the HMAS Onslow submarine and a life-sized replica of Captain James Cook’s ship, the Endeavour. All of these incredible ships were docked on the water.
We then split into three groups to explore the ships and the museum. We boarded the HMAS Vampire and viewed a variety of smaller artefacts. My personal favourite was the Endeavour, where we stepped on board and explored the musty old dining rooms. We even got to see Captain Cook’s office, bedroom and living quarters.
In conclusion, the Maritime Museum is a breathtaking place with spectacular exhibitions, and I would highly recommend a visit.

How would you feel about visiting the Maritime Museum with all of your friends? That’s exactly what happened to me on Friday, 16 May. We went to the replica of the Endeavour and explored the exhibition. It was a wonderful learning opportunity for me and my classmates, who were all fortunate enough to experience this exciting event.
The first part of our excursion was a tour of the replica of the Endeavour. This famous ship sailed around the world twice and helped map the east coast of Australia. Our guide took us from the bow to the stern, showing us the different parts of the ship. We explored the lower deck where the crew and sailors lived. We saw the gentlemen’s quarters, as well as the rooms of the doctor, two artists and an astronomer. Most of them slept in hammocks, except for a wealthy man named Joseph Banks and Captain James Cook. The ship’s voyage had several goals: to discover new plants and animals (fauna and flora), to measure the distance from the Earth to the Sun and to claim new land for Britain.
The second part of the excursion took us inside the museum to explore the exhibition. We saw models of planes and ships, watched interesting videos and completed an activity book as we went around. Afterward, we had lunch together outside.
In conclusion, it was a fun and educational experience with my classmates. That’s why I think you should visit the Maritime Museum too!
