Each student receives a school diary, which is checked regularly by teachers for any messages. You are expected to sign and check your son's diary for any communication from the school once a week.

The Red is published and emailed to parents every fortnight during the school term. Past issues are available on the Redfield website.

Daily Mass
Mass is celebrated daily from Monday to Friday at 10:20am during the school term.
Note: The Mass time is subject to change depending on school events.
Mass is not available during school holidays.

Reconciliation

Confession is available most days from 8:00am to 8.30am and from 3:00pm to 3:30pm, or by appointment with the College Chaplain.

Morning Arrival

  • No supervision is provided before 8:00am. If arriving before 8:00am, students must be supervised by an adult or older student.
  • If arriving to school late, students must report to the Student Services Desk in the Administration Office to sign in and stamp their diary. Students are not to go directly to class without checking in. Students will be marked as late on the school roll.

Afternoon Departure

  • Supervision ends at 3:20pm. After this time, students are to be collected from the Library area.
  • Car pick-up: Students are to wait at the front of the school outside the Administration or Primary buildings.
    • Pick-up line: There is a maximum time limit of three minutes in the pick-up line. Do not leave your vehicle unattended.
    • Parking: If staying longer than three minutes, please park in the designated parking area and use the pedestrian crossings.
  • Students travelling by bus should go directly to the bus stops after classes.
    • Once a teacher on duty arrives, students may access the Old Northern Road bus stop through the pedestrian gate. Students are to use pedestrian crossings when accessing the Old Northern Road bus stop.

Crunch & Sip (Primary only)

  • Primary students are to bring fresh fruit or veggies (cut into bite-sized pieces) and a bottle of water each day.

Lunch

  • Redfield College does not provide canteen facilities. As such, students must bring a healthy packed lunch each day.
  • Occasionally, food is sold at lunchtime to raise funds for various causes. Details will be communicated for each event.

Nut-Aware School

  • While we cannot eliminate all allergens or claim to be nut-free, we are a Nut Aware School. We have implemented practical, age-appropriate strategies to minimise exposure to known allergens.
  • Students are asked not to bring nut products like peanut butter, Nutella or muesli bars with nuts to school.

Medical Care Guidelines

Redfield staff prioritise student health and wellbeing. We partner with parents to ensure the best care for students.

In case of illness

  • If your child feels unwell during the school day, we will monitor him closely.
  • We will contact you if necessary, so please keep your contact details updated .
  • We will inform teachers if your son is upset or unwell to help us provide personalised care.

Medication

  • Provide written instructions for any medication needed during the day by emailing the school, including the type, dosage and administration times.
  • Medication should be handed to the Student Services Officer and will be returned at the end of the day.
  • All administered medication is recorded in Engage.
  • Inform the school if your son requires regular medication for ongoing health issues.

  • Submit a doctor-signed medical plan for any of these conditions.

Decision Process for Extended Leave and Exemption From School Applications

  • The Headmaster will review applications and decide whether to grant the leave.
  • If approved, you will receive a Certificate of Exemption or a Certificate of Extended Leave .
  • If denied, you will receive a note stating the absence will be marked as Unjustified Leave on your son's record.
  • Note: Student absences during non-holiday periods are now automatically recorded as absences unless under extraordinary circumstances.

Accurate information is crucial, especially in emergencies, as the school relies on these details to contact parents quickly.

Any change of address, telephone number or emergency contact numbers for your family should be updated in the Engage Parent Portal Change of Details request .

Vaccinations

As part of the NSW School Vaccination Program, the following vaccinations are available to students free of charge at school each year:

  • Year 7: Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (dTpa) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV);
  • Year 10: Meningococcal ACWY.

Online Consent

  • Consent for school vaccinations must be given online through Service NSW.
  • Parents/carers will need their Service NSW log-in and Medicare card.
  • Benefits include easy updates, SMS notifications and quicker vaccination record uploads to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

Parent Code of Conduct

Redfield aims to work in partnership with parents to form each student's character, educating for personal and academic excellence. The College is committed to a strong culture of mutual trust and support among parents, teachers, mentors, all staff members and students.

The Parent Code of Conduct has been developed so that parents and those with parental responsibilities are aware of and meet the College's expectations with regard to their interactions with the school, its teachers, mentors and all staff members, other parents and students. Adherence to this code is important to promote positive and productive relationships within the College community.

Key Parent Functions

Key Parent Functions

Overview

  • Key Parent Functions (KPFs) occur in Terms 1, 2, and 3 for Primary and Secondary . There is no KPF in Term 4.
  • At the first KPF of the year, teachers will explain the curriculum and student expectations for the year.
  • KPFs include educational content and updates on College policies and events, and provide parents with the opportunity to ask questions and meet with teachers and other parents.

Commitment

Attendance at KPFs is required for both parents.

At Redfield, each year group has a set of Class Parents .

  • Their role is to create a family spirit within the College by fostering friendships amongst the families.
  • They also aim to promote unity and communication between the parents and the College .
  • Class Parents coordinate support for families in need.

Mentoring Program

Program Overview

Pioneered in Australia by PARED, mentoring fosters a partnership between parents and Redfield College to ensure all students receive a holistic and effective education.

Educational Philosophy

  • Redfield’s core belief is that parents are the first and most important educators of their children.
  • A close and constant link between the school and parents is crucial.
  • This link is embodied by the student's personal mentor.

Mentor-Mentee Relationship

  • Mentors meet with students every two weeks.
  • Mentors focus on developing the student's independent thinking, virtues and good habits needed for life.
  • Mentors build rapport and friendship with students, offering personal examples, guidance and advice.

Parental Involvement

  • Both parents are strongly encouraged to attend parent-mentor meetings and work as a united team.
  • Preparation for meetings involves noting discussion points and identifying the student's areas for growth.

Additional Support

Mentors are always available by appointment to discuss any concerns parents may have.

Commitment
Parents are expected to meet with their son's mentor each term to review his progress and establish priorities.

Character Education Program

Program Overview

Redfield's Character Education program involves students learning the meaning and practical application of virtues in their studies, play and family life.

Virtues: At Redfield, developing human virtues is a priority for fostering self-direction and strong character. Virtues are essentially good habits. Sincerity and generosity are key virtues emphasised at Redfield.

Motto: Each fortnight, classes adopt a motto to try to live by. The Redfield College motto, Veritas Liberabit Vos ('The truth will set you free'), reflects our focus on truth and freedom.

Mentorship: Mentors help students set goals to reinforce strategies for living out the virtues.

Family Environment: Families are encouraged to nurture virtue at home by reinforcing the messages and lessons taken from school.

Father & Son Camps

Father & Son Camps

Father & Son Camps are important events at the College, and it is expected that dads attend each year.

  • Father & Son Camps are held for students in Years 2 to 8.
  • These camps provide a wonderful opportunity for fathers and sons to spend quality time with each other and are the perfect occasion to meet other fathers.
  • College mentors and teachers also attend these camps.
  • Attendance at Father & Son Camps is strongly encouraged.

Student Code of Conduct

Student Code of Conduct

Overview

The Student Code of Conduct may be found in the Student Diary which is issued yearly to each student.

The code covers school values, virtues and expected behaviour:

  1. Sincerity
  2. Respect for self and others
  3. Safety
  4. Respect for College rules and policies
  5. Attendance and punctuality
  6. Care of materials, facilities and playgrounds
  7. Correct etiquette at assemblies, performances and presentations

The College also has in place the following systems to encourage behaviour demonstrating the virtues:

  1. Lions Awards - To encourage all students to live out the virtues, teachers nominate students who consistently demonstrate positive behaviour for Lion Awards which are presented at assemblies.
  2. Bluebook Infringements - For infractions relating to personal presentation, punctuality and organisation or behaviour, a student will be issued with a Bluebook Infringement.
  3. Academic Infringements - If a student does not complete or submit homework, classwork or assessments, he will be issued with an Academic Infringement.

Primary Books

  • Books: Primary students will use My Pals Maths and other textbooks.
  • Provision: Books are supplied by the school at the start of the year and are charged to your school account.

Secondary Books

  • Supplier: All textbook requirements can be ordered through Campion Education, with the option available for home delivery or collection from the Campion shop in Artarmon.
  • Booklist: You will receive a booklist from the College with a submission due date. Orders can also be placed online or by phone.

Study Club

Study Club provides a quiet, supervised and supportive environment for Redfield students to complete homework, assignments and study.

Support
Students can receive assistance from Study Club Coordinators and senior student volunteers.

Study Club is open to all students at Redfield College.

Schedule

  • Study Club is held in the Library on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm to 5:00pm, except for the first and last weeks of each term.

Attendance
Students must present their diary to receive an attendance stamp during Study Club sessions.

Mobile Devices Policy

Mobile Devices Policy

Redfield encourages a supportive study environment by prioritising face-to-face interactions and minimising digital distractions. Our policy aims to guide students in the safe and responsible use of mobile devices, with the support of parents.

The Mobile Devices Policy applies to all students at Redfield College, and covers the use of all mobile devices, including phones, smartwatches, portable music devices and tablets on College grounds and during off-campus activities (sports days, excursions, camps).

Use of Mobile Devices at School
Years 2 to 6

  • Primary students require written permission from a parent or guardian to bring a mobile device to school.

All Students

  • All mobile devices must be clearly marked with the student's name.
  • Students must hand in their mobile devices to their teacher during roll call each morning. Late arrivals should hand in devices to the Student Services Officer.
  • Devices are kept in a secure location during the school day and returned at afternoon dismissal.
  • Students needing to contact parents during school hours must do so through the Student Services Officer.
  • Parents should contact their children during the school day by leaving a message with the Student Services Officer, not via the student's mobile device.

Consequences for Misuse of Mobile Devices

1. First Offence

  • The device is confiscated and returned after three school days.
  • A form must be signed by the student's parents.

2. Second Offence

  • The device is confiscated and returned after five school days.
  • A form must be signed by the student's parents

3. Repeat Misuse

  • The device is confiscated and returned after ten school days, and more serious sanctions may be applicable.

By adhering to this policy, we ensure a focused, respectful and safe learning environment for all students.

Locker Allocation

All Secondary students are assigned a student locker. Lockers are to be used for storing all bags, books, equipment and personal items.

Padlock Requirement
Each student will be required to supply their own padlock for their allocated locker.

Responsibility
Students are accountable for ensuring their locker is locked and secure at all times.

Damage and Fees
If the locker is damaged, a fee may be charged to the student.

All sporting activities and sports representation are conducted under the authority of the Head of Sport.

There are four College Houses: Altair , Castor , Hydrus and Sirius .

New students are allocated to a House when they start at Redfield College and remain with that House for the duration of their enrolment.

PDHPE Program

PDHPE Program

Overview

The Redfield PDHPE Program aims to develop students' knowledge, skills and attitudes for health-enhancing behaviours and lifestyles. The focus is on promoting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Curriculum Structure

  • Primary Classes

    • One double outdoor sports lesson per week;
    • One classroom-based health lesson per week.
  • Secondary Classes

    • One single and one double physical education lesson per fortnight;
    • Two single health lessons per fortnight.

As part of Redfield’s Music Program, all students from Years 2 to 12 are invited to take part in the College’s Band Program, Choral Program or Small Ensembles Program. Research shows that learning an instrument or singing in a choir impacts children’s cognitive processing skills, language development, socio-emotional skills and wellbeing. Redfield is proud to offer this program to enrich the development of the whole child. The Music Tuition Program at Redfield College offers students the opportunity to learn and excel in various instruments, fostering a love for music under the guidance of professional tutors.

Sports Uniform

Uniform Components

  • Redfield polo shirt : Must have the logo and be worn with the PE uniform when representing the College (no House shirts).
    o    Primary boys and students in Years 7 to 10 must wear the polo shirt to school on PE days.
  • House T-shirts : Not to be worn when traveling to and from school.
  • Navy blue shorts : Must have the Redfield logo.
  • Tracksuit : Required for students in Years 2 to 10 and for boys playing representative sports in Years 11 & 12.
  • White sports socks
  • Sports shoes : Must be white-soled and non-marking.
  • Legionnaires cap : Required for Primary students only. Not to be worn when traveling to and from school. The College enforces a "No Hat, No Play" policy. Primary boys must wear a legionnaires cap during all outdoor activities throughout the year.
  • Redfield swimwear : Redfield Speedo Swimming Briefs/Redfield Speedo Swim Shorts are required for swimming classes. Board shorts are not allowed.

Important Notes
The full sports uniform must be worn for all timetabled sport and PE classes.
A cap is compulsory for all PDHPE classes (Secondary).

At all times, the College reserves the right to determine and enforce the following parameters:

Hair

  • Hair must be neat, tidy, clean, not excessively long and off the face.
  • Hairstyles should be moderate, without sharp contrasts between shaved and longer sections.
  • Hair colour should be natural.
  • Students must be clean-shaven.

Shoes

  • Students must wear polished black leather school shoes.
  • Boots and black joggers are not permitted.

Jewellery

  • Bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings and any piercings are not permitted.

Mufti Days

On mufti days, the College expects that all students will dress appropriately for a school event. Clothing must be neat, clean and modest. Parents will be phoned if students are dressed inappropriately.

The following are not to be worn:

  • Torn, frayed or ripped clothing;
  • Jewellery;
  • Clothing with inappropriate writing and/or graphics;
  • Thongs or sandals (covered shoes must still be worn).

Written Notice

  • A full school term’s notice of the withdrawal of a student from the school must be given to the Headmaster in writing.
  • The date that contact is made with the Headmaster regarding a student's withdrawal is regarded as the official date of notice.
  • If this notice is not given, one term’s fees will be charged in lieu of notice.

Balance of Fees

  • The fees owing will be calculated from the fee schedule immediately following the date of notice.
  • If a student is withdrawn, any balance due to the school must be paid in fullon or before the student’s final day of attendance.

The staff at the Uniform Shop would like to extend a welcome to all students, parents and families new and

existing to Redfield College Located at 855 Old Northern Road, Dural. The Uniform Shop stocks all

academic uniforms, sport uniforms and uniform accessories including school shoes.

Fitting Appointments

Throughout the school term, our opening hours are: Tuesdays 8.00 am – 4.00 pm.

All families planning a visit to the uniform store we ask that you use the below link to make an appointment.

An appointment typically takes 30-45 mins with all uniform items available within the uniform store.

We do ask that students be accompanied at a fitting by no more than one parent. Students may also be fitted for the uniform and purchase the uniform without a parent present. All care will be taken to fit the student correctly.

Returns

Midford’s returns policy allows for the exchange and return of uniform items. Items must be presented with

a receipt, original packaging and swing tags attached and be unworn, altered or laundered.

Payment

Please note the uniform shop is only accepting Visa, MasterCard, Amex, and EFTPOS.

Please note: No Cash is accepted.

  1. Go to www.midford.com.au .
  2. Select your school from the Online School Shops tab.
  3. New users to click the “Register New Account” button.
  4. Start the registration process by selecting your school from the drop-down menu and add the unique school pass phrase: Redfield1986 .
  5. Add your personal information, and create a username and password.
  6. Order the items you need, and select pick-up in store or opt for home delivery.

College School Bag
The official school bag is dark blue with the College Shield. Sports bags and Library bags are also available at the Uniform Shop.

Labelling
All clothing, personal belongings and books should be clearly labeled with your son’s name.

Our student management system is called Engage.  The Engage Parent Portal is where you can access term calendars, timetables, forms, school reports, the absentee system.

You will receive a separate email with your family's portal login details after Term 4, 2025 .

New parents will receive a username and password for the Engage Parent Portal .

This portal provides access to vital information such as:

  • parent and student contact details;
  • medical records;
  • attendance;
  • academic results; and
  • feedback.

Redfield College has partnered with Edstart , a leading provider of payment and technology services for the education sector in Australia.

Edstart is the payment platform we use to receive all fee payments .

As part of our commitment to parents, the school absorbs the administrative fees, so this service is free to use .

Every family must create an Edstart Plus account before their son commences .


How does it work?

  1. Set up your Edstart Plus account by visiting www.edstart.com.au/pared .
  2. You can select the frequency of your fee payments (weekly, fortnightly, monthly, termly or annually), as well as the date you would like to be charged and your preferred payment method.
  3. Edstart will contact you to finalise the setup for your Edstart Plus account.

If you have any questions regarding the payment of your son's fees, please contact Edstart:

The customer service team is available from Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 8:00pm.

Benefits of using Edstart

  • Parents can choose any date/day on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly, termly or annual basis for fee payments to be made.
  • Fee payments can be spread over a full 12-month period.
  • Changes to the payment date can be made at any time and at no cost.
  • Credit card payments are surcharge-free.
  • During difficult times, families can be offered flexible payment schedules, and payment holidays can be accommodated.
  • Edstart offers families an option to extend the term of their repayments beyond 12 months. (Note: there is a cost for this option called Edstart Extend)
  • School fees paid in full by 31 January are eligible for a 3% discount.

The School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) provides eligible school students with free or subsidised travel between home and school on public transport.

School Opal Cards

School Opal Cards are only valid for use between home and school on the transport operators specified in your original application (only one approved return journey per school day) and can only be used between the hours of 6:30am and 7:00pm for school students. For personal travel, children aged 16 years and under should use a Child/Youth Opal card (see below).

To apply for a School Opal Card, go to transportnsw.info/school-travel-apply . School Opal Cards will then be sent directly to the student’s nominated address.

Child/Youth Opal Cards
Senior students will need to have their own separate Child/Youth Opal Card for excursions. These can be purchased at a train station or applied for online.

School Term Bus Pass
If a student does not qualify for free school travel, you may be able to buy a School Term Bus Pass.

Minimum distance
Free school travel is available to students who live outside of the following distances from their school.

  • Years 3 to 6 students - if the straight-line distance from their home address to school is less than 1.6 kilometres;
  • Years 7 to 12 students - if the straight line distance from their home address to school is less than 2 kilometres.

If you live within these distances, you will need to buy a School Term Bus Pass.

Senior Secondary Concession Cards

  • Students under 16 are eligible for half-fare transport as children. At 16, students must obtain a concession card for continued fare discounts.
  • The NSW Senior Secondary Student Concession Card allows access to concession fares at all times.
  • Students must be Australian citizens, permanent residents or on a DET-approved international scholarship/exchange, residing in NSW.
