This week our Year 12’sare living evidence of the wonderful sporting spirit that our students have. Please keep them in mind as this is their last week of formal schooling before they face their biggest academic challenge thus far, the HSC. Our Year 12 Graduation Weekhas many special events: the Primary fun day, the concert, the touch football game against the staff, the Valete Dinner. As usual, our dedicated staff will be running HSC preparation classes during the holidays to help the boys prepare. Just as we saw the Olympic coaches help their athletes put the finishing touches to refine their practice so as to have them in the best shape to achieve gold, our teachers also go that extra distance for our men. Another great example of value added here at Redfield.
There are a number of families that are graduating from college this year as well. Assaf,Attard, Azar, Callegaro, Cheung, Corry, Dove, Dumas, Fattah, Habkouk, Hatcher, Makari, Manassa, and Yassa. Some of these families have had a long association with the PARED schools and we are sad to see them go. However, as I said to the Year 12s last week, they are not going, the relationship merely changes. They now become Old Boys. I will refrain from calling the parents 'Old Parents,' but they are still very much welcome here at the college. Let’s keep the Year 12’s and their families very much in our prayers at this time.
I’ll take this opportunity to thank Isaac Cheeand Joseph Assafwho have both admirably led from the front in all aspects this year. Thank you for your great leadership.
Shakespeare once said, “The more I practice, the more I realise I have much more to learn". This quote emphasises that continuous training is essential for mastery and improvement. It has been impressive to see the number of boys dedicating hours to training, either in the vocal ensemble or schola, on the rugby or football field or in the cricket nets, in the music tuition rooms or in heated debates in the library. There are great lessons and virtues that have been practised including hard work, commitment, teamwork, and of course, the betterment of themselves
As we approach the upcoming break, it is worth reflecting with your spouse on the ability of your son to be regular with his commitments both in word and deed. Some points of consideration are your son’s duties at home – does he do them well or without reminder? Or his activities (music, sport, interests) – does your son complain often or give up too readily?
The next two weeks we will have a short but well-deserved holiday break, to set us up for the fast-approaching end of the year. This break may we all, Stay busy, stay safe, be outside as much as you can, and don’t forget to say a prayer each day for the Year 12s, whose HSC starts soon after our break finishes.
I will leave the final word with Aristotle: “Virtues are formed in man by his doing the actions.”

Redfield Leadership 2026
Redfield Leadership 2026

At Redfield, we are blessed to have such an excellent calibre of student leaders. This year is no exception. Congratulations to the following students for their appointment to senior leadership positions for 2026:
It was so wonderful to be able to officially present and commission these new leaders to our whole College Community at our Leadership Commissioning Assembly on Thursday, 11 September. It was so lovely to have many of the parents of our incoming leaders, in attendance, to support their son.
It was a fitting ceremony that set the tone and ethos for the beginning of their leadership journey. The assembly commenced with an address by our Headmaster, Mr Aldous, in which he articulated his vision of leadership at Redfield centred around Our Lord and care for others. He also offered words of encouragement to our newest leaders at Redfield, emphasised the importance as a leader of seeing the need for change, having a clear vision and the drive to mobilise others to act. This was followed by the commissioning service of our new leadership team where they were presented to the College Community, received their badges of office and recited the Redfield Leadership Pledge committing themselves to the service of the College. Our incoming College Captain, Jackson Busch, delivered his inaugural ‘Captain’s Address’ to the School. Jackson thanked the College for the opportunity to lead, he acknowledged and thanked the School Leadership Team of 2025 for all their hard work. He discussed the importance of legacy and developing strong relationships with others; concluding by challenging the whole School Community to strive to have a positive impact. The Leadership Assembly was fittingly concluded with a prayer and passage from the Bible for our new leaders by Father Phil.
We, as a College community, wish all our new leaders well as they embark on their leadership journey. I know these young men will fulfill their roles with diligence, be strong role models for all and represent the College with pride and integrity; building on our College’s traditions, spirit, and legacy of leadership.
It is also important to remember that leadership does not occur in isolation but rather it is a team effort. I encourage all our Year 12 students to embrace leadership regardless of whether they have an official position of office or not. For 2026 to be successful, each one of you has a part to play by setting the standard expected by the rest of the school. You are the role models the younger boys look up and aspire to. It is Year 12 who sets the tone at Redfield. I know each one of you will do an amazing job.

Renaissance Reading
Renaissance Reading

Students in Years 2-10 have been reading daily for 20 minutes at school. Once a student finishes reading their book they complete an online assessment. Primary students complete this at school whilst secondary students complete this assessment at home or in morning admin. Please encourage your son to read at least 30 minutes a day in the holidays.
Importance of Homework
Importance of Homework
Homework is a critical aspect of building good study habits. We will follow up on any boys that haven’t completed their homework and ensure that they have completed it. In secondary school, lunchtime sessions are set aside for students to finish their homework.
Preparing for Years 5-10 Yearly Exams
Preparing for Years 5-10 Yearly Exams
Yearly exams will be fast approaching and it's a great idea for students in Years 5-10 to start preparing for these exams early. Exam notifications will be handed out to the students early Term 4. The focus of the exams will be on semester two content. A good time to start are these school holidays. Some good strategies for examination preparation are:
1. Plan with a Study Schedule
- Break down subjects into manageable chunks.
- Set aside short, focused study sessions (25–40 minutes) instead of cramming.
- Prioritise weaker areas first, while still reviewing strengths.
2. Active Revision, Not Just Reading
- Use practice questions, past papers, and quizzes.
- Summarise notes into mind maps, flashcards, or diagrams.
- Teach the content out loud to someone else (or even to yourself) – if you can explain it, you understand it.
3. Practice Under Exam Conditions
- Do timed practice questions to build speed and accuracy.
- Simulate real exam conditions: no notes, quiet space, set time limit.
- Review mistakes and learn how to fix them.
4. Use Study Techniques that Stick
- Spaced repetition: review material several times over days/weeks.
- Pomodoro technique: 25 minutes study + 5 minutes break.
- Mix subjects (interleaving) instead of only focusing on one.
Examination Schedule
- English writing Year 5 Monday 17/11 (Week 6)
- English writing Year 6 Friday 21/11 (Week 6)
- Reading for Year 5 and 6 Monday 24/11 (Week 7)
- Mathematics for year 5 and 6 Tuesday 25/11 (Week 7)
- Year 10 Yearly Examinations: Week 6 Term 4 (November 10-14)
- Years 7-9 Yearly Examinations: Week 7 Term 4 (November 17-21)
Year 12 Class of 2025
Year 12 Class of 2025
Best of luck to our Year 12 class of 2025 who begin their HSC Exams on October 16 and finish on November 7. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare for these important exams. The group has worked extremely hard and should be rewarded with excellent marks.
The Year 12 group of 27 students is too small to be included in the official HSC rankings, as the rankings found in the Sydney Morning Herald only apply to schools with a minimum of 150 HSC exams. While we may not be officially recognised, a comparative ranking will still be calculated and our students’ achievements will still be recognised and remain a source of pride for the Redfield community.

Vinnies Van
Vinnies Van
On Friday of Week 8, Sam Flitcroft, Sam Zaitony, Aidan Weber, and I, with the help of Mr David Vassallo and Mr Jakov Pavlovic, went out to feed people in need as part of the Ryde Vinnies Van. We went to 2 different locations, giving out sandwiches and snack packs to anyone who came. I was surprised by the sense of community that was among the people who came up for food. They were all friends with each other, and eager to make conversation with us about anything, with some asking us about our plans after school, and others talking about their own lives. One man politely asked us not to leave until his friend had come out and gotten some food. There were no problems whilst giving out the food, and everyone was extremely polite. It was a very good experience, bringing us closer to communities in need, and revealing that even though these people were in harsh conditions, they remained happy, polite, and very grateful.

From the Secondary School
Captain's Corner
Captain's Corner
For the last edition of The Redfrom the graduating Class of 2025, I wanted to highlight one important aspect of gratitude: the fact that saying thanks will never be enough for the people who have done everything for us. Parents, siblings, friends, teachers, mentors, and those special people in our lives who have imparted an invisible but everlasting mark on our journey to where we are today – thank you.
A great way to repay those who have given themselves to us is to give to others in the same way. This is perfectly encapsulated in Luke 6:31: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”After the HSC, I ask each and every one of the Year 12 boys to look outward, recognise who has helped them, and find ways to repay them in any way possible. Gratitude is a very powerful way to show appreciation, so we should start with our parents. A big thank you to all the Year 12 parents, and another shoutout to our Class Parents, Mr and Mrs Abboudand Mr and Mrs Assaf. While your work has often gone unnoticed, it has been an honour to have your assistance in uniting the grade. To our parents, thanks will never be enough – but hopefully, you will see our appreciation throughout Graduation Week and the end of this school year.
To the Year 11s, congratulations on finishing your trials. You have a very short and intense year ahead of you – it is definitely in your best interest to make the most of the memories with your mates and lift each other up. I know the worksheets and past papers will seem endless, but the bigger the sacrifice, the greater the reward. Good luck to all of you as you begin Year 12!
I would like to acknowledge all the teachers and staff members who have made this journey easier (or harder) throughout our schooling. Thank you for your support, mentorship, stories, dedication, and encouragement over the years. I would especially like to thank Mr Vassallo– thank you for your efforts, particularly in supporting Joseph and me as we led the school in 2025. It was a privilege to experience your terrific work ethic and personal warmth on a daily basis.
To the graduating Class of 2025, it’s often hard to find the right words to describe the end of the biggest part of our lives so far. Thank you to all of you who have put up with each other and made mates for life – and for that, we must also thank Redfield. I wish each and every one of you the absolute best in your endeavours post-school, and hope that you may grow closer to Our Lord in whatever career you pursue.
Congratulations, Class of 2025!
Thanks for everything,
Isaac Chee, College Captain, 2025
