Are you on board the new Redfield Bus yet? If you aren't, you are missing out! Our wonderful colours have been splashed all over this 61-seater people mover to ensure everyone knows that the young men aboard are being prepared for life. What a great initiative for those families who find transport to Redfield difficult! If your son needs transport, maybe we can help. Click on this linkand read the information below for more details.
We are already at the end of Week 2 of the term, and there is so much that is happening here at Redfield. This weekend, our Football and Rugby teams are hoping to notch their first wins for this season thus far, the Chess and Debating teams are in full swing, exam preparation for all students should be a priority as we move towards this term's exam periods... there is so much going on here, it is hard to keep up! I would like to thank all the wonderful teachers and parent volunteers who make these things possible.
Recently, Pope Francis was speaking about prayer, reflecting on how, at times, praying is hard. He noted that even great Christian figures have struggled to overcome discouragement in difficult times, but he went on to remind the faithful that, in times of trial, it is good to remember that we are not alone: ”Jesus is always with us. If, in a moment of blindness, we cannot see his presence, we will in the future. At the end of our lives, looking back, we too will be able to say I thought I was alone, but no, I was not: Jesus was with me”.
There are many intentions to keep in mind in this month of Our Mother Mary. The Fatima visionary Sister Lucia once said that “there is no problem so great that cannot be overcome by praying the Rosary”. Let us go to Our Mother a lot this month and support the other families in the school with our prayers.

Redfield Private Bus
Redfield Private Bus
We are pleased to announce that Redfield College now offers a private bus that services the Hills area for the morning and afternoon school runs. The service, which commenced last week, follows a very strong and positive response to our survey sent to parents last year about a possible bus service.
The route takes into account the location of Redfield families in the Baulkham Hills, Glenhaven, Kellyville and Rouse Hill areas, and the 61-seater coach is fitted with seatbelts and security cameras. The TransportmePassenger App allows students to tap on and off with their student cards and allows parents to track the bus's location live. Additionally, both the bus driver and the school have a list of the students booked for the bus to ensure that students are picked up and dropped off correctly at the pre-allocated bus stops along the route.
Details of the service are as follows:
Mornings: Monday to Friday
- 7:00am Departs Seven Hills Road before Solar Avenue, Baulkham Hills
- 8:03am Arrive at Redfield College Bus Bay
Afternoons: Monday to Friday
- 3:05pm Departs Redfield College Bus Bay
- 4:10pm Arrives Seven Hills Road after Bingara Crescent, Bella Vista
A fee of $340 (plus GST) per term per student return for the bus service will be invoiced termly and payable at the start of each term for 2023 through Edstart.
There is a discount of 20% for the second child from each family (enrolled at the College concurrently) travelling on the bus.
The third and subsequent children from each family (enrolled at the College concurrently) travel for free.
This link to the Parent Portaloutlines all the information about the bus's route and timings, and will allow you to book your son's place on the Redfield Private Bus. If you receive a place, you will be sent an email with an invoice. As there are limited places available, please make your booking as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
We look forward to helping Redfield families organise safe transport for our students. Please contact Student Services if you have any further questions.

Hair that is too long or very short on the sides and long on top is unacceptable, as are sides that are short and not blended into the top, or undercuts and shaved partings that are overly distinct from other parts of the cut. The College reserves the right to determine whether a cut is acceptable or not.

House Points Competition
House Points Competition
The Redfield House Points Competition has begun in earnest this term, with a new system devised to encourage student participation in and contribution to College life.
Students can earn individual points for their Houses for participating in sport, music, community service, public speaking, debating, chess and many more school-based activities. In addition, Houses are awarded points for winning carnivals and lunchtime competitions.
Rewards for the winning House at the end of each term as well as a fun day for the House with the highest total number of points at the end of the year are designed to incentivise participation and rekindle some good, old-fashioned House rivalry.
With points already applied retrospectively for last term's achievements, the current standings are as follows:

I hope this finds you well and that you had an enjoyable Easter break with your families. We welcome you all back to Redfield for Term 2, which promises to be another busy and exciting term.
We started the term with a bang, with the Primary Cross Country held on Wednesday. The weather was great and it was fantastic to see our boys competing, running and trying their best. It was also pleasing to see how supportive the boys were of each other, cheering on their classmates and House teammates. I would like to thank all the Primary staff who helped make the event run smoothly, with a special mention to Mr Justin Roberts who ensured the day was a success.
Term 2 is a short and busy term with a lot of events happening. During the month of May, we celebrate Mary with a pilgrimage. Parents of students in Years 2, 2 and 4 should have received correspondence about their pilgrimage on Friday, 19 May. Please endeavour to respond to the permission slip as soon as possible. As part of their pilgrimage, students in Years 5 and 6 will be competing in the traditional annual PARED Cup against Wollemi College on Tuesday, 30 May. This will be held at school. Redfield currently holds the much-heralded trophy, and there is a quiet confidence that we will retain it.
It has been great to see the boys at school looking very smart in their winter uniforms. College photographs will be held on Friday, 26 May, so please ensure that your boys have the correct uniform so that they are looking sharp for the occasion.
Finally, we have boys who will be representing Redfield in Football, Chess and Basketball in the near future. We wish them all the best of luck and look forward to hearing about their achievements.
Once again, welcome back to Term 2 and we look forward to working with you and your sons throughout the term.

Year 2 Visits The Tech Workshop
Year 2 Visits The Tech Workshop
Whilst practising for the Cross-Country event, the Year 2 boys couldn't help but be distracted by the noise coming from the Tech Workshop where the Year 11 D&T students are currently working on an ultralight electric vehicle project.
This group project of designing and making a vehicle powered by a cordless drill pushes students out of their comfort zone and helps them develop valuable skills in planning, designing and engineering.
The Secondary boys were excited when the Year 2 students wandered into the Workshop, as one of the groups was road-testing and evaluating their working model at the time.
The Primary students were kindly given a quick tour of the Workshop by Mr Carol and his class. We were invited to see what projects D&T students at different stages have been working on.
It's wonderful when our boys can work with their older peers and share these experiences.

Mother's Day Stall
Mother's Day Stall
On Friday, 12 May, Redfield Primary will be holding our annual Mother’s Day Stall selling items for the boys to purchase for the special ladies in their life: mums, grandmas, aunties and so on... We have a huge variety of gifts to cater for every type of mum, including candles, homewares, jewellery and blankets. Boys will be able to check with their siblings to ensure that they have bought different items.
Gifts range in price from $2 to $25 each.
Raffle tickets for some fantastic prizes will also be sold at the stall, and the raffle will be drawn on the day at our Primary Assembly. Tickets are just $1 each! Our major prize is a family dinner voucher at the magnificent Baba Ghanouj in Dural. We would like to thank the Ayoub family for their generous support of our raffle. The boys can also win brilliant home appliances, Oodies and gardening kits.
We thank you for your continued support, and happy Mother's Day!

Captain's Corner
Captain's Corner

All of us, at some time or another, have agonised over making a decision. Some decisions are major decisions and some are small. These decisions tax our minds, drain our energy and create anxiety, nervousness and mental torment. But, because we are human, we choose to leave it at the back of our minds, in a place where we will never hear from it again, or so we think…
I recently heard this great metaphor:
I want you to imagine yourself on your deathbed and, standing around your deathbed are ghosts representing your unfulfilled potential: the ghosts of the ideas you never acted on, the ghosts of the talents you never used. They're standing around your bed angry, disappointed and upset. They say, "We came to you because you could have brought us to life, and now we have to go to the grave together."
Hence, the simple question you must ask yourself today is: how many ghosts are going to be around your bed when your time comes?
Life doesn't reward people who wait to see what happens. What you put in is what you will get out. So, if we want Term 2 to be different, we have to be willing not only to visualise our achievements but also to push through the discomfort and pain we inevitably will experience.
The harsh but confronting reality is that the world doesn't wait for people who are indecisive or late. It doesn't say, “Isaac, you’re wasting time, it’s time to focus,” but rather it teaches us a harsh lesson, a lesson which is very hard to come back from.
I want you to treat this day as though it's your last. Work on your dreams - whether it be business, sports, debating, Maths or whatever it may be! So, I ask you: how many ghosts are going to be around your bed?
Isaac Busch, College Vice-Captain
Senior School Update
Senior School Update

Welcome back to all students and families.
Term 2 will, as always, be a busy time, with Mid-Year Exams for Year 10, ongoing assessment programs for Years 11 and 12 and the regular events and activities which comprise day-to-day life at Redfield College.
House Points
Already, we have held our first Senior School Assembly for Term 2, during which the new and improved House Points system was launched. Students have received a logbook which, at designated points in each term, they must submit in order to gain points for their Houses. Rewards are becoming more tangible, with termly mufti days and House barbecues, and a House Champion Celebration Day late in Term 4. More information is provided elsewhere in this edition of The Red, and you are encouraged to speak to your son or me for further details.
A key element of the House Points system is to encourage students to participate in and contribute to different activities of the College. We have had our first opportunity to do so, with the Secondary Cross Country Carnival held on Thursday this week. With the promise of House points, Zooper Doopers and beating their doddering Head of Senior School to the finish line, students participated with great enthusiasm and energy. Well done to all boys who ran!
Senior Study Club
The Senior Study Club has begun for Term 2, changing the way we operate to reflect the needs and requests of our Senior School students.
Most workshops will now be targeting upcoming assessments, with our regular presenters, graduates Julian Varga and Ruby Tanna, delivering their high-quality sessions with these tasks in mind. Senior subject teachers are also volunteering their time to assist - thanks to all involved.
We are also providing workshops for Years 10 and 11 students which will focus either on study tips and techniques or subject-specific skills that cross over between Years 10 and 12.
All students are encouraged to attend. The timetable for Term 2 is available HERE.
Importantly, there will also be a Study Skills workshop held on Monday, 15 May for students in Years 7 to 10 on how to prepare for the upcoming Mid-Year Exams. For more details, please refer to the article in this edition of The Red.
Study Skills Workshop
Study Skills Workshop
Students in Years 7 to 10 are invited to attend a Study Skills workshop run by Ruby Tanna, a high-achieving Tangara graduate who has been supporting Redfield students in 2023.
The development of study skills is incredibly important for students. It provides them with specific tools and strategies to can help them improve in their studies and prepare effectively for the upcoming Mid-Year Exams.
Date: Monday, 15 May from 3:15pm to 4:00pm
Location: College Library
Cost: $10, which includes pizza at 3:00pm (charged to school accounts)
Please indicate via this form by Friday, 12 May if your son will be attending, so we can prepare a suitable space for the presentation.
Year 10 Geography Excursion
Year 10 Geography Excursion
Last term, Year 10 Geography students travelled to Collaroy Beach on Friday, 24 March. The purpose of the excursion was to conduct fieldwork. Students were taught how to collect data use the following geography tools:
- clinometer,
- compass,
- barometer,
- anemometer,
- tape measure.
Learning how to collect accurate data in Geography is a valuable skill which has broad application in the workforce. Students learned that making good decisions about managing the coastal environment to prevent erosion and pollution depends on collecting accurate data to avoid wasting both time and tax payers' money.
By all measures, the students were busy but they had a great day in the field developing a knowledge of coastal landforms and processes and an appreciation of the need to manage environments for future generations.

Primary Cross-Country
Primary Cross-Country
On a glorious autumn morning, with the coloured bunting flapping in the wind and the cloudless sky begging us all to be outside, the Primary boys assembled on the College lawns with great eagerness to take part in our annual Cross-Country Carnival.
A gathering of excited parents joined us for this wonderful occasion.
The course was set, the staff and Year 10 volunteers were in place along the course and all preparations were now over. It was finally time for the actual event that all the training had been for.
The younger age group began the day with their two-kilometre run and there was a buzz of activity at the start, as the boys jostled for position. The hooter sounded and they were off! The 10s, 11s and 12s followed suit in their respective races and everyone gave their best effort and participated with great spirit and enthusiasm.
The ‘supporters zone’ was constantly cheering each and every runner as he passed and provided that little extra energy to all who needed it!
Throughout the event, there were some outstanding individual efforts and this provided excellent opportunities to witness the tremendous skill, passion and techniques that some of the boys adopted.
What an amazing carnival! Very well done, boys, for helping make this one of the best-ever Cross-Country Carnivals for Primary.
I wish to thank the six Year 10 students for their help on the day and the amazing efforts of the Primary staff team once again for assisting me in putting together this wonderful event.
I would also like to make a special mention of Mr Ben Nolan for his amazing dedication to preparing the boys for the carnival through his organisation of the early morning running club, the results of which were certainly on show throughout the event.
BIG thanks go again to all who helped make this such a memorable carnival.
Many congratulations to HydrusHouse for being the 2023 Cross-Country Carnival Champions and to SiriusHouse for winning the House Participation Cup.
The first six place-getters in each event are listed below, and these boys have qualified for the HZSA Cross-Country which will be held on Tuesday, 23 May at Sydney International Equestrian Centre.
Justin Roberts, Head of Primary Sport

Secondary Cross Country
Secondary Cross Country
Redfield once again had a fantastic Secondary carnival, this time with the Cross-Country event. The weather was perfect for running and the races did not disappoint, with top-notch performances by a number of boys, including the winners of the three races: Ruben Mulkeen-Suarez (Year 7 Hydrus), Joachim Rodrigues (Year 9 Hydrus) and Claude Ayoub (Year 11 Sirius). The best part of the day was seeing all of the boys in their Houses, cheering the competitors on, regardless of which House they were representing.
Big thanks have to go to the staff who assisted on the day and to those boys who gave their best effort.
The ISA Cross Country Carnival is on Wednesday, 24 May at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, with team lists to be announced next week.
Nick Georgiou, Head of Sport

Sports Camp
Sports Camp
In the first week of the Easter holiday break, Redfield ran yet another highly successful, fun-filled Sports Camp.
Over 80 Kindergarten to Year 7 boys from Tangara and Redfield attended and had a wonderful time participating in a range of games and sports and playing with their mates.
Proceeds from the camp totalling over $4700 will now be used to improve and upgrade the facilities around the College.
Special thanks goes to our Secondary student helpers: Amin Abboud (Year 12), Jonathan Abdow (Year 11), Isaac Busch (Year 12), Gabriel Choi (Year 11), Amin Abboud (Year 12) and Nicholas Jaucian (Year 9).
The next Sports Camp will run during the winter holiday break - stay tuned for dates and details towards the end of Term 2!
