Almost there! There is a lot of hard work going on at Redfield during these final weeks of term. In the past fortnight, we have had our Yearly Exams and MAP Growth testing in Years 7 to 10, our Year 12 students in Class of 2024 have begun their first HSC assessments, our Primary boys have been wrapping up the year with excursions and activities, the Year 10 boys shone during community service during their Work Camp at Darlington Point, near Griffith, and we have the beautiful occasion of Carols in the Chapel tonight. In the days ahead, there are many activities scheduled, including excursions, the inaugural House Competition Fun Day and more, with the culmination of the academic year, our Presentation Day, next Friday,
Congratulations go to James Engesser(Year 12) who was successful in being selected for Shape, a selection of Design & Technology major design projects by HSC students exhibited nationally; this is a wonderful achievement and goes to the heart of our culture of excellence here at the College and James's hard work. Congratulations also go to Mr Leo Carol, our Head of Design & Technology, whose expertise and guidance of his students helped lead to this wonderful result.
Similarly, I would like to recognise Jayden Choi(Year 12) who was successful in being selected for ArtExpressfor his HSC body of work for Visual Arts. This is a phenomenal achievement given the small number of students selected for these exhibitions and the tough competition. Congratulations go to Mr Stewart Hannan, Jayden's teacher, for his hard work with the Year 12 Cohort. These results are evidence of the quality of teaching and learning that happens here every day at Redfield by our wonderful and dedicated staff. This, once again, proves that if you are a top-level student who is committed, hardworking and determined to succeed, Redfield’s high-quality staff combined with our virtues-based program of personalised education will help you reach your full potential. You don't need to attend a selective school or opportunity class to get results; Redfield helps students excel - and you get all the extras of a good character thrown in as well.
The crib is now in the Chapel and the smell of Christmas pudding and the sound of carols are in the air. The readings at Mass have been from the Book of Wisdom, which has some sombre reminders for us all. It proclaims, “love virtue” and “seek simplicity of heart”, and states that “wisdom is a spirit, a friend to man, since God sees into the innermost parts of him, truly observes his heart, and listens to his tongue”. As we come to the end of the term, the calendar year and the Church's year, we are asked to reflect on who we are, where we have come from and where we are going. It is a call that reminds us where our true home is - in Heaven - and that our words and deeds come from the heart, and that Our Lord hears and sees them all. Are my words ones that pull others up or push them down? What a great way to prepare for Christmas: loving my family and the members of my community by living out charity in words and deeds.

Message to Parents
Message to Parents
MESSAGES TO STUDENTS
We understand that, in extenuating circumstances, it may be necessary for you to change the pick-up plans you have for your son at the last minute. Please understand that it may not always be possible to pass on this message to your son in the given time. We ask that you plan ahead and let your son know of any changes in the morning and only notify the office if no other option is available.
LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY DEPARTURE PROCEDURE
On occasions, when your son arrives at school late or is picked up early due to an appointment or other reason, you will be required to fill in the 01 Absence, Late arrival or Early Departureform on Engage on the day of the early departure or late arrival.
If you need to pick your son up for an appointment that cannot be arranged outside of school hours, we request that you do not come during recess (10:45am - 11:15am) or lunch (12:45pm - 1:30pm), as it is difficult to get messages to students in the playground.
Please make prior arrangements with your son to report to the office at the time you need to pick him up. Where it is not possible to make prior arrangements, we ask that you arrive at school allowing sufficient time for an office staff member to contact your son's teacher and arrange for him to come to the office.
If your son is attending a morning appointment, you may receive an absence text message. Please disregard this message, as his presence at school will be amended once he arrives at school and this is reconciled with the submitted the absence form.
AFTERNOON PICK UP/DUTY OF CARE
Direct supervision by staff members ends at 3:30pm. Students should be picked before this time to minimise any incidents that may occur when students are unsupervised.
Students involved in co-curricular activities (such as Study Club, sports training or music rehearsals) should be picked up immediately at the conclusion of the activity.
DELIVERY OF FOOD OR OTHER ITEMS
To limit disruptions to classes, please refrain from delivering food or other items (such as sports gear or instruments) for your son to the office while he is at school.

Theology of the Body Programs
Theology of the Body Programs

We are all aware that our students are growing up in a world where questions of human identity, masculinity and sexuality are in turmoil. Parents are the primary educators of their children in all fields, and particularly in these areas. Schools have a role in "assisting and completing the work of parents, furnishing children and adolescents with an evaluation of sexuality as value and task of the whole person, created male and female in the image of God" (Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education, Educational Guidance in Human Love [1983], n. 69).
To that end, as the Chaplain, I am encouraged by the introduction of programs at Redfield that communicate to the boys in an age-appropriate and holistic way some essential truths in these areas. The first of these, TOBET, is already up and running in Primary. Next year, we will begin with the TeenStar program for some Secondary students. Both these programs are excellent ways to 'assist and complete the work of parents', and are very timely. I look forward to seeing their full implementation in the school.

Primary Special Assembly
Primary Special Assembly
On Monday, 20 November, we were honoured to have our local federal member, Mr Julian Leeser, MP, join us for a special assembly. He awarded Henry Lin from Year 5 with a prestigious certificate and award for winning a drawing competition. Henry's artwork, a stunning depiction of Berowra Waters, stood out remarkably and has been chosen as the cover for Mr. Julian Leeser's Christmas cards this year. Congratulations, Henry, on this truly remarkable achievement.
At the assembly, we proudly introduced our Primary Captains for 2024, Mason Sahyoun and Marcus Tan. It was heartwarming to witness their parents' pride as they attached the captain's badges to their sons' uniforms.
The Primary choir and Junior Voices, under the guidance of Mrs Lauren Kwon and accompanied by Mr Evan Guy, showcased their incredible talent with a beautiful performance. Their rendition of Dream Wild captivated everyone present.
We extend our gratitude to Mr Julian Leeser for gracing us with his presence and honouring our students. The afternoon was truly memorable, filled with pride, talent and community spirit.

A Magical Experience for Years 5 & 6: Beauty and the Beast
A Magical Experience for Years 5 & 6: Beauty and the Beast
An unforgettable experience unfolded as the Years 5 and 6 students from Redfield College attended a spectacular performance of Beauty and the Beastat the iconic Capitol Theatre in Sydney.
This was a special school outing to watch a live adaptation of the timeless tale, Beauty and the Beast. The show was a blend of music, dance and drama, bringing the enchanting story to life. The performance featured a talented cast of actors who were mesmerising in their portrayal of the classic characters. Even our teachers were amazed at the magical effects that we saw. Mr Hatcher and Mr Corke loved the part when the prince was transformed into the beast, whereas I really liked the way they used projectors and lighting to make it look like it was raining inside the theatre.
This excursion was not only a treat but also an educational experience, intended to expose us to the arts and inspire creativity. It was a perfect blend of learning and entertainment. The performance was nothing short of magical. From the opening scene to the final bow, we were transported into the world of Belle and the Beast. The costumes were vibrant, the music was captivating, and the actors' performances were truly heartwarming.
This experience was incredibly impactful. It was not just about watching a play; it was about seeing the joy and wonder in the eyes of my peers, the way the music filled the theatre, and how the story unfolded so beautifully on stage. Everyone came out with a smile on his face after seeing the dazzling show. When we got back to school, we were all exhausted but happy to see our parents in the rain.
If you get a chance to see the show, I suggest you take your whole family as I believe they will love the experience.

School Shoes in Primary
School Shoes in Primary
As we prepare for the upcoming 2024 school year, I would like to bring your attention to the importance of ensuring that your son's school shoes adhere to the Redfield uniform guidelines. It is essential that students wear black leather school shoes instead of black joggers.
Black jogger-type shoes, while comfortable, are not a part of the standard school uniform. To maintain overall uniformity and to ensure the well-being and comfort of our students throughout the day, we kindly request that all students wear black leather school shoes.
We understand the varying preferences and needs of our students (especially our younger boys); therefore, the recommended black leather school shoes can be either lace-up or velcro for convenience. This flexibility allows you to choose the style that best suits your son's preferences while still adhering to the school uniform policy.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated, as it contributes to the overall professionalism and orderliness of our school environment. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel contact me via email (jason.hatcher@redfield.nsw.edu.au).
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Celebrating the Season: Nativity Christmas Tree and Scene
Celebrating the Season: Nativity Christmas Tree and Scene
In the spirit of festive joy and creativity, our talented Primary boys have embarked on a heartwarming project to celebrate the Christmas season. They have collaboratively crafted a breathtaking Nativity Christmas Tree and Scene (including music) that is sure to captivate all who lay eyes upon it. Under the guidance of our dedicated teachers, the boys poured their creativity into every detail, bringing to life the timeless story of the Nativity. From the twinkling lights that illuminate the scene to the carefully crafted decorations depicting the iconic characters of the Nativity, the Christmas tree and accompanying scene serve as a testament to the boys' dedication. The Year 2 boys even walked around the school collecting the pinecones to complete the tree.
This collaborative effort not only showcases the boys' artistic talents but also fosters a sense of unity and shared accomplishment within the Primary community. We would like to thank Mr Leo Carol(Head of Design & Technology) who helped created the timber Nativity decorations and the beautiful star that we designed.
We invite parents, teachers and fellow students to witness the magic of the season embodied in this beautiful creation by our Primary boys. The Nativity Christmas Tree and Scene will be proudly displayed for all to enjoy in the Primary foyer, serving as a visual reminder of the warmth and togetherness that define this special time of year. We wish everyone a joyful and festive holiday season!

St Vinnies Christmas Hampers
St Vinnies Christmas Hampers
As the holiday season approaches, we find ourselves reflecting on the incredible spirit of generosity that defines our Redfield community. The Primary Social Justice group extends heartfelt gratitude to our families for their overwhelming support in contributing to the St Vinnies Hamper donations this year.
Mason Sahyoun(one of our 2024 Primary Captains), supported by dedicated mothers from our community, embarked on a heartwarming initiative to create festive hampers for those in need. The response from Redfield College has been nothing short of remarkable, contributing to the creation of over 40 hampers filled with holiday essentials such as ham, puddings and festive sweets.
Special thanks go to the incredible mothers who generously volunteered their time and effort to assist the Primary Social Justice group in packaging these hampers. Mrs Sahyoun, Mrs Cox, Mrs Abboud, Mrs Saad- your dedication and enthusiasm have undoubtedly added an extra layer of care and thoughtfulness to each package, making them not only a source of sustenance but also a beautiful gesture of goodwill.
Thank you once again for making this initiative a resounding success. Your contributions have undoubtedly made a difference and brought a touch of festive magic to those who need it most.
We wish everyone a joyous and meaningful holiday season!

For this week’s Red, I wanted to address the idea of hard work. When most people think of hard work, we think of putting hours into the books or on the court. However, hard work can be applied to anything and using different methods as well. And so, I want to talk about the concept of working on your weaknesses, because this takes hard work. In fact, it requires more effort to work on your weaknesses than to improve on your strengths. Over time, by working hard on your weaknesses, your weaknesses become strengths and you’ll essentially be unstoppable.
A perfect example of this is seen in the early years of Michael Jordan. Growing up, Michael wasn’t tall and he didn't come from an athletic family, but he was determined despite his many setbacks and failures. He was even rejected by his own high school team. When Mike first entered the league, his jump shot was mediocre - it was his weakness. So, in the offseason, he spent every day practising hundreds of jump shots until they were perfect. The quote from Jordan says, “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying”. Now, he is considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
This mentality can be implemented in everything we do. For the boys who have gotten their exams back, if you are unhappy or disappointed in your marks, accept it and aim to achieve higher. The good news is we can start afresh next year. Use the break as a time to refresh yourselves, identify your weaknesses and work on them to become “unstoppable” in your exams. For those in sports teams, we should all be working on our game in the holidays - work on that jump shot, work on your footy pass. Invite your friends to play sports and make sure that you have fun. Keep pushing yourself, stay active and enjoy your break.
