Welcome to Term 2! We have ‘hit the ground running’ with a big Open Day, ANZAC Day and staff day all in the mix. This is only the beginning of a busy term with exams to come later in the term. Last Friday our students had a wonderful reminder about the importance of service and living for others during our ANZAC Day Service. Mr Christopher Kirk spoke eloquently of the service rendered by many men and women in our ANZAC history.

From the Headmaster
2026 marks a special milestone for Redfield - 40 years. Looking back through some of our archives it is amazing to see how far we have come. Saturday night we will be having our 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner and I am sure it will be a night to remember. It will be a chance to give thanks but also a chance to reconnect with family and friends.
Next Monday we have our KPF here at school. It is great to see so many of the RSVPs attending the different talks. Our KPFs are an essential part of our education and development here at Redfield. It is so great to see our families tackling the big responsibility of prioritising the raising of their sons.
One of the more visible changes this term is the switch to the winter uniform. Our students look smart with their blazers and ties. The uniform acts as an ‘equaliser,’ as everyone wears exactly the same clothes. In Primary school, it helps students to fit in - there are no distinctions based on clothes. In Secondary, as students seek to assert their individuality, we encourage them to base their identity on the content of their character, not on their external appearance or the clothes they wear. Growing up in a large family where money for clothes was not abundant, I am particularly conscious of the benefit of a consistent uniform at school.
At Redfield, we encourage our students to take pride in their school. The uniform is part of the ‘package’ and how we wear it should be a reflection of that pride. Likewise, we love our Redfield community and what it, and the school, stand for. The effort of parents and staff to help students wear the uniform with pride reverberates in the value they will place, now and in the future, on the messages they receive whilst wearing that uniform. We need to help our boys ensure that a certain carelessness in personal appearance, which is somewhat understandable in boys, does not lead them to carelessness in attitude, motivation, and most importantly, behaviour.

Year 7 Leadership
The development of leadership and service is an important part of our student’s formation at the College. As part of our leadership program, each year group in Secondary has House Captains.
Last term, our Year 7 students had the opportunity to apply for Year 7 House Captain for their respective House. Thank you to all students who applied for these leadership positions. It takes great confidence and courage to do so. I was so impressed by the number and calibre of candidates. We truly have a great depth of leadership potential at the College.
It was great to be able to present our Year 7 House captains for 2026 at our Term 2 School Assembly . Congratulations to the following students who have been appointed as Year 7 House Captains of their respective houses for 2026:
| Altair | Castor | Hydrus | Sirius |

| Xavier S | Gabriel M | Matthew A | Mahir M |
Castle Hill RSL Anzac Day Dawn Service
On ANZAC Day, we pause as a nation to honour the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of the servicemen and servicewomen who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today. On Saturday 25 April, our College Captains, Jackson B and Christopher F , proudly represented Redfield at the Castle Hill ANZAC Day Dawn Service, laying a wreath on behalf of our entire College community in recognition of the immense sacrifice made by our servicemen and women. It was a deeply moving and solemn ceremony that invited quiet reflection and heartfelt gratitude for all who have served.
Wellbeing Survey - Year 7-12
The wellbeing of our students is an important priority at the College. With this in mind, the College will be conducting a Wellbeing Survey for students in Years 7–12 this term. The survey will help us gain a deeper understanding of how our young men are managing day‑to‑day and how we can continue to support their growth and development. Students will be asked about areas such as their coping strategies, healthy peer relationships, goal setting and achievement, support structures and network, sleep and diet, and overall wellbeing. The insights gathered will guide us in strengthening the programs and initiatives that help our students thrive and flourish.
Stand Tall Conference Year 9
To further help assist our Redfield men with their character development and wellbeing skills, Year 9 will attend the Stand Tall Conference in Sydney on Thursday 4 June (Week 7).
Stand Tall (which is now in its fourteenth year) brings a host of high-quality speakers together on the one day with the aim of growing students’ resilience, strength and motivation and developing the power of perspective to make positive life choices. This year’s speakers include:
- Jessica Watson (OAM) made history at 16 as the youngest person to sail solo, nonstop around the world - 210 days alone at sea. A bestselling author, Netflix film subject, and Young Australian of the Year, she’s since skippered the youngest crew in the Sydney to Hobart race, represented the UN World Food Programme, co-founded marine start-up Deckee.com , and completed an MBA. Jessica continues to inspire as an author and sought-after corporate speaker, proving that with courage and determination, anything is possible.
-
James Chapman
was born with Pseudoachondroplasia, a rare form of dwarfism, and now uses his story to inspire others with the motto “difference is dope.” With over 200,000 followers and 300M+ video views, he’s a TikTok for Good Award nominee, Australian representative at the World Dwarf Games, and a sponsored surfer invited to the PARA Surfing World Championships. As a youth leader, James is passionate about helping young people grow, thrive, and make an impact.
- Michael Crossland . Michael has defied the odds of a life-threatening cancer to build a life of achievements as an accomplished businessman and an elite sportsman. His message of hope and overcoming adversity has seen Michael invited back year after year to Stand Tall. Michael is an amazing speaker who has the ability to captivate the imagination of young people to encourage and inspire them with his story.
This promised to be a great event that will impact and benefit our Year 9 students tremendously.

Vinnies Van
Vinnies Van
On Friday 24 April, Luca B, Sam N, Yohan M and I had the privilege of taking part in the Ryde Vinnies Van alongside Mr Luke Cinque and Mr David Vassallo. The Vinnies Van provides practical support to those experiencing hardship, offering food, drinks and basic necessities. Not only is it about distributing these items to the less fortunate but also creating a space for connection with dignity.
Before heading out, we helped prepare the van by organising the supplies we would distribute throughout the night, including sandwiches, snack packs and hot and cold drinks. After a prayer, we travelled to our first of two stops in Gladesville. Going into the evening, I did not fully know what to expect, but the experience quickly challenged my assumptions. While we were there to provide food and other essentials, I realised that often what people valued just as much was the chance to have a conversation and be listened to. Many of those we met were eager to talk, share their stories and simply enjoy a friendly interaction.
One of the most powerful things I took from the experience was witnessing the sense of care that existed within this community. Despite their own struggles, many people were looking out for one another, checking in on friends and even collecting supplies for others who could not make it. It was a strong reminder that generosity and community spirit are not defined by material wealth. The experience reinforced for me the importance of compassion and service and showed how small acts of kindness can have a meaningful impact.
I would like to thank Mr Cinque and Mr Vassallo for giving us the opportunity to be involved and for supporting us throughout the evening. I strongly encourage other Redfield boys to take part in the Vinnies Van if they have the chance. It is a rewarding experience that not only allows you to serve others, but also teaches valuable lessons about gratitude, humility and community.

Year 10 Catechist Assistants
Year 10 Catechist Assistants
“Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.”
—
Mark 16:15
Last Friday, our Year 10 Catechist Assistants recommenced their work at Dural public school. As they take on this important role, we ask our community to keep them in mind and accompany them in your prayers, supporting them as they live out their Baptismal calling to share the Good News. Through their presence, they not only teach but also model the values and beauty of our faith to younger students.
The Year 10 Catechist Assistants are
Xavier F, Simon M, Callum M, Jacob R, John M, Elijah P, Jonah H, Benedict J, Thomas R, Angus B, Bernard T, Michael H, Antoine M, Dylan T, Alex E, Henry D
and
Luka R.
This marks Redfield's second year of involvement in the diocesan-led program, which runs throughout the entire school year. The continued commitment of our students to this initiative reflects their generosity, leadership, and dedication to service. We are proud of the way they represent our school and contribute to the wider community.

Primary Easter Concert
Primary Easter Concert
On the last day of Term 1, Primary held our Easter Concert. It was a memorable occasion that reflected not only the meaning of Easter, but also the effort of the Primary school. All students had been preparing in the previous weeks for their performances.
The Year 4 band performed
Hot Cross Buns
with confidence and a special congratulations to them on their first time playing their instruments as a band and having their first performance. The Year 5 Band presented
Duet of the Crusaders,
Serenade
and
Theme from the New World Symphony
to a high standard. They performed very well. Thank you to
Mrs Lauren Kwon
,
Mr Frank Romeo
, and the rest of the music team for their efforts throughout Term 1 in helping the boys grow and flourish in their musical abilities.
The ceremony was guided by the Year 6 captains, who explained the meaning of Easter through a story that younger students could easily relate to. They presented with confidence and clarity, setting an excellent example through their leadership and the way they introduced each performance.
The Year 2 students once again impressed us with their creative Easter hats, made in class with
Mr Jason Hatcher
and
Mr Danny Zhang
. They also sang a joyful song,
Cloaks and Branches
, helping us reflect on Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of the Passion.
The Year 3 students stood out with an engaging play about the true meaning of Easter. Their performance included some students talking about what Easter means, as well as portrayals of key figures from the Bible, covering events from the triumphal entry through to the Resurrection of Jesus.
We were also very fortunate to hear a few words from
Fr Phil Elias
, who shared a meaningful message about Easter and reminded us of the importance of listening to others.
Overall, the students did exceptionally well. The concert was a testament to what can be achieved when students work together with a shared purpose. More than just a performance, it provided an opportunity for students to develop responsibility and confidence, while deepening their understanding of the true meaning of Easter.
Thank you to all the teachers who made this possible, to the families who attended, and to the students for their dedication and effort in preparing for this special event.

Captain's Corner
Captain's Corner
With ANZAC Day passing last Saturday, it is an apt time to reflect on the implications of this Australian legacy for us. It seems almost crazy that just over 100 years ago, boys the age of the current class of 2026 signed up to fight in the First World War. Their efforts show us that even men of such a young age can write their names into the pages of history.
My great grandfather was just 18 years and 3 months old when he joined WWI in 1916 as a medic. He served for 3 years before a wound to the leg meant he was sent home to Australia. While he never openly spoke about the war, he carried the ANZAC spirit of service and sacrifice with him especially into his work and fatherhood.
He passed this ANZAC spirit onto my grandad who himself, although he never faced battle, underwent compulsory military service in New Zealand for 2 years. To this day, his ANZAC spirit still shines through his extensive community involvement and his undying care for his family.
What then for us who are the inheritors of the ANZAC spirit? Christopher Kirk, Iraq war veteran and our guest speaker at the ANZAC Day ceremony, told us that, while we may not experience the challenges of war, by embodying the virtues of responsibility, perseverance and mateship, we can keep the ANZAC spirit alive in our time. By meeting our small battles of procrastination, impatience and boredom with unwavering determination, we can continue in this historic Australian legacy.
So whether we come from an ANZAC family or inherit their legacy by being citizens of Australia, we all bear the obligation to ensure the ANZAC spirit persists for many generations to come.

HZSA Touch Football Championships
Stage 3 students recently represented our school at the HZSA Touch Football Championships, enjoying a fantastic day of sport, teamwork and friendly competition. With clear blue skies and perfect playing conditions, students took to the fields with enthusiasm and energy, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship throughout the day.
Our team demonstrated great effort and determination, supporting one another and celebrating both individual and team successes. It was wonderful to see students encouraging their peers, displaying resilience, and most importantly, having fun. We even came up against (and beat) our friends at Wollemi.
The day was a memorable experience for everyone involved, and we are incredibly proud of the way our students represented the school both on and off the field.

Redfield Lions Rugby Club
Redfield Lions Rugby Club
The Redfield Lions Rugby Club recently enjoyed a fantastic visit from Brady Dawson of the NSW Waratahs, making for a memorable afternoon for all involved.
Player Profile: Brady Dawson
Position: Prop
Height: 194cm
Weight: 110kg
Brady brought both energy and expertise to the session, joining in with Redfield training and working closely with players across all age groups. Our Minis teams were especially thrilled, looking up to Brady as he guided them through skill development and shared his experience at the elite level.
The session continued with our junior teams (U10–Y12), where the boys had the opportunity to test themselves against a professional front-rower. Many bravely attempted to take on Brady—though with little success! It was a great reminder of the physicality and technique required at higher levels of the game, and perhaps a sign that a bit more practice is needed.
The visit was not only enjoyable but also inspiring. Experiences like this provide our students with valuable insight into where dedication and hard work can lead. We look forward with optimism to the day when another one of our own Redfield Lions may follow in Brady’s footsteps and represent the Waratahs.
