Term 4 is almost half done, and the boys are gearing up for exams in two weeks.
Our HSC students started their exams in week 1, and so far, have reported no mishaps or unpleasant surprises. They continue to rely on the prayers of our community, and I continue to reassure them that all our families are remembering them in their prayers.
The month of November is upon us, and it is the month when we remember those who have passed. Last year at this time, I was driving home and I noticed a number of children - and adults for that matter - dressed up as ghosts, witches and other deathly creatures waiting at a set of lights to cross the road. This reminded me, not so much of the American custom of dressing up and ‘trick-or-treating’, but rather of the fact that this Saturday is the feast of All Saints: All Hallows in the Church's old calendar, which gave the name to the current ‘Halloween’. In the month of November, in keeping with Church tradition for many centuries, we encourage our students, in age-appropriate ways and often through the mentor system, to pray for those who have gone before us, in our families, in the broader school and Pared communities, and even across time and space. As St Josemaria wrote in The Way (#571):
“The holy souls in purgatory. Out of charity, out of justice, and out of excusable selfishness — they have such power with God! — remember them often in your sacrifices and in your prayers.
May you be able to say when you speak of them, 'My good friends the souls in purgatory.'
World Teachers Day
Today is World Teachers Day. This is an opportunity to thank our teachers for the wonderful job that they do. The teachers will be treated to a special lunch, and two days off.
