A wonderful highlight of term 1 is our Whole School Assembly recognising our Class of 2025 graduate high achievers. Joseph Assaf received the ultimate award of College Dux for 2025. He spoke a message of thanks and hard work to the students. Congratulations to all the boys on a wonderful set of results. 48th in the state is a fantastic achievement. There are many personal achievements that are not recognised in the paper but all the boys are to be congratulated for completing such a gruelling race.
From the Headmaster
Despite significant challenges thrown our way by recent wild weather, our two Swimming Carnivals proceeded smoothly and without incident. A big thank you to Mr Georgiou, Mr Corke and the entire staff for making it so. I was particularly pleased with the leadership by our senior students. Our Year 12 students led in their own particular low-key way by their cheerful participation in every event available to them. Their positive attitude, together with the obvious close bond with each other, had an impact on the whole carnival. I am confident this positive influence will extend to other areas of school life throughout the rest of the year.
We have entered the half-way of this term and our lenten period. This is a great time to talk and reflect on perseverance and consistency. We don’t get fit by one day in the gym or eating well, we don’t pass an assessment by one day’s worth of study. Nor do we draw closer to God with one day's Mass or prayer. Moving closer to God is a daily conversion of consistent and persistent yes to God’s call. Are we a fan or a follower? This is a great time to redouble our efforts as we draw closer to Easter.
Congratulations to our primary and secondary swimmers who so admirably represented Redfield at the ISA and Hills Zone swimming carnival. All the boys did a fantastic job on the day and achieved some wonderful results.
Please remember that there is no school on Monday 9th March as this is a teacher only day.

Ms Katherine Lockman
Ms Katherine Lockman

Hello Redfield parents, my name is Katherine Lockman and I am thrilled to join the College this year, working within the Secondary school and the Diverse Learning Team. I hold a double degree in Special Education and Disability Studies and have spent the last four years helping students reach their goals through tailored strategies and adaptive tools. When I’m not in the classroom, I’m usually happiest outdoors—whether I’m camping, playing soccer, or exploring new places. I look forward to bringing that same energy and sense of discovery to our students’ learning journeys this year!
Mr Philip Jamolin
Mr Philip Jamolin

I am honored to join the incredible community at Redfield College. I am a father of two beautiful daughters and husband to a very patient wife. My teaching career has been centered on student well-being and character building, with eight years of experience across primary grades and support classrooms. I am trained in Trauma-Informed Positive Education and Spalding Education, and I bring eight years of coaching experience with both boys' and women’s basketball teams.
Mr Bradley McDonald
Mr Bradley McDonald

My name is
Bradley McDonald,
and I am thrilled to be joining the Redfield College community in 2026. It has already been a wonderful start to the year, having welcomed my first child and joined the English and HSIE faculties, where I am teaching English, History and Geography.
I have for a longtime had a passion for the Liberal Arts, which led me to study at Campion College, majoring in Literature and minoring in History and Theology. This background continues to shape my classroom practice and inspires me to share a love of learning across a range of subjects. Building on this foundation, I completed a Master of Teaching and a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education at the Australian Catholic University in Strathfield.
Having previously taught at Homebush Boys High School and studied at St Mary’s Cathedral College, I have come to appreciate the many strengths of boys’ education. What makes Redfield particularly special, however, is the way it supports students in growing in their Catholic faith, especially through daily Mass and regular access to the sacraments.
At Redfield, I am also looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm for debating and public speaking, working alongside Jakov Pavlovic to encourage students to find their voice and to engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
Already in my time this year, I have noticed the Redfield difference. Thank you to the staff, students and families who have made me feel extremely welcome. I look forward to continuing to work with you.
Mr Joshua Callegaro
Mr Joshua Callegaro

Hi all, my name is
Joshua Callegaro,
and I'm excited to begin my role as a mentor at Redfield College.
I am a Redfield Old Boy who studied a Bachelor of Psychology and have just commenced a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy. When I'm not studying, I can be found playing basketball at my local courts or in the gym, hitting a session with my mates.
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to return to Redfield in a mentoring capacity and to give back to a school that has had such a strong and positive influence on my own formation and development.
Through personalized mentorship, I aim to facilitate and inspire students' personal, academic, and spiritual growth, and ultimately uphold Redfield's ethos of building men of character and virtue. I look forward to meeting and working with both students and staff throughout the year and contributing to the Redfield College community."

Mr Thomas Ragell
Mr Thomas Ragell

Hello, my name is
Thomas Ragell,
and I am very grateful to be returning to Redfield College - this time as a member of the Staff team. As a proud Old Boy, it’s a real privilege to give back to a school that has had such a strong and positive impact on my own formation and development.
I am currently finishing off my Master of Teaching degree and in my free time I spend it playing golf and coaching for Eastwood Rugby in the Shute Shield competition. For the past 8 years I have been working across a range of different school settings, I’ve developed a genuine passion for supporting students in their academic and personal growth.
Redfield has always stood out to me for its strong character education, supportive community, and commitment to faith and helping each young man become the best version of himself. I’m excited to contribute to that mission and to reconnect with the Redfield community in this new role.

I graduated high school in 2015 from St Ignatius' College Riverview and have since completed a Bachelor of Science (Health and Psychology) from the University of Sydney and Masters of Commerce (Finance and Accounting) from Macquarie University. I also lived at Warrane College at the University of New South Wales (affiliated with Redfield and PARED) for two years from 2021-2023 and served as the Assistant Dean there in 2024.

Mr Charbel Doumit
Mr Charbel Doumit

Hello, my name is
Charbel Doumit,
and I am truly grateful to be joining the Redfield community as Head of Senior School, with the added privilege of serving as Head of Religious Education.
I am happily married and a proud father of three children: two boys and a girl. This year is especially meaningful for our family, as my eldest has started Year 2 at Redfield and my middle child has begun at Tangara. Experiencing school life as a parent alongside my role as an educator gives me a deep appreciation for the partnership between families and the school in supporting each student's growth.
Over the past 11 years, I have taught in three previous all-boys schools, taking on a variety of leadership roles, most recently serving as Religious Education Coordinator at De La Salle College. These experiences have prepared me well for the opportunities and responsibilities ahead.
I was first introduced to the Redfield community by Dr Andy Mullins five years ago, when he served as my Master’s thesis supervisor and lecturer. Since then, I have admired the spirit and mission of this school, and I am truly looking forward to giving of myself generously to our students while also receiving the many wonderful graces that abound here.

Redfield Lenten Appeal - Mary's Meals
Redfield Lenten Appeal - Mary's Meals
Thank you to everyone for their support of our Mary’s Meals Lenten Appeal. We are only two weeks into our appeal and we have made a great start towards our goal of feeding 40 children for our 40th Anniversary. At last count, we have raised a little over $900. This is fantastic and speaks volumes of the generosity of our College community.
What has stood out most is the enthusiasm with which students and families have embraced each activity. Our Inter‑House
Bowl Relay
launch was full of energy, with Secondary Houses racing against each other through an obstacle course to fill their water bowls in a fast‑paced, good‑spirited competition. In the end, Hydrus claimed the win on the day, cheered on loudly by their peers. Our weekly Bowls for Breakfast collections have also been overflowing thanks to students’ kindness and generosity, and the Mary’s Meals Guessing Bowl has sparked plenty of excitement both in Primary and Secondary as students try to work out the number of gummy bears — not an easy task!
We are only at the midpoint of our appeal, with more opportunities ahead to raise awareness and support children in need. Some of our upcoming events include:
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY
Blue Shirt Mufti Day — Wednesday 25 March (Week 8)
Students in Years 2–12 are invited to wear a blue shirt (Our Lady’s colour) and casual clothes, bringing a gold coin donation.
“Bowl At” – Sponge the Teacher — Wednesday 25 March (Week 8)
A fun chance for students to throw a wet sponge at a teacher for a small donation.
SECONDARY
Bowls for Breakfast — Every Friday until Week 7
Year 12 House Captains will collect loose change during Morning Admin. The House that raises the most will earn House points and a special reward.
Weekly Fundraising Activities
- “
Bowled Over” Ten‑Pin Bowling Challenge
(Week 6)
-“
Bowled Out” Cricket Challenge — students try to bowl out their favourite teacher
(Week 7)
Families who would like to contribute directly can do so through our online donation link below:

Thank you to all who have already donated. Your generosity is truly appreciated and brings us closer to reaching our goal.

Year 7 Leadership
Year 7 Leadership
The development of leadership and service is an important part of our student’s formation at the College. As part of our leadership program, each year group in Secondary has House Captains.
Our Year 7 students have been given the opportunity to apply for Year 7 House Captain for their respective House.
All Year 7 students were sent a link, via their email, in Week 5 from me to apply and have until Monday 16 March at 9:00pm to lodge their application. After this time, the application will be reviewed, shortlisted and interviews will be conducted.
I encourage all our Year 7 parents to discuss this leadership opportunity with your son.
Vinnies Van
Vinnies Van
Thank you to those Year 11 and 12 students who have already lodged their expression of interest in the Vinnies Van for this year. It is great to see as at Redfield, we take great pride in fostering a strong culture of community service that encourages our students to look beyond themselves and make a meaningful difference. Vinnies Van provides a valuable and practical opportunity for our senior students to do this.
Redfield has been allotted one Friday night shift per month. For each shift, we need three to four Year 11 or 12 student volunteers, who will be accompanied by two Redfield teachers.
There are still some limited places available to those Year 11 and 12 students who wish to be part of this service learning initiative. Please register your expression of interest at
https://forms.gle/vpFXebJt4hfiFNST7
. Expression of interest will close on Monday 6 March (Week 6)
Thank you in advance for your support of this service learning opportunity.

Captain's Corner
Captain's Corner

“
Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart
.” (2 Timothy 2:22).
Lent is often associated with giving something up, such as sweets, social media, or the good old snooze button, but the season is not only meant to shape our bodies, but our souls, too. It is a time to focus on the spiritual and the physical, allowing each to strengthen the other. Just as the body hungers for food, the soul also hungers for meaning.
For forty days, we follow the example of Jesus Christ, who fasted and prayed in the wilderness. His fasting was physical, but its purpose was spiritual. In the same way, our sacrifices during Lent are not just acts of self-denial, they are invitations to deepen our dependence on God.
This reliance on God is not only important in church or during prayer. It matters in our everyday lives. When assessment tasks are piling up, when deadlines feel stressful, or when we are trying to balance sport, friendships, study, work, and church, it is easy to rely only on our own effort. Lent reminds us that we do not have to handle everything alone. Just as we turn to God during fasting, we can also turn to Him before a test, while studying, or when we feel overwhelmed.
True transformation happens when our outward practices reflect our inward heart. Choosing to pray instead of complain, to trust instead of panic, and to stay disciplined in our work are ways Lent can change us. Physical sacrifice builds self-control, and spiritual focus builds trust in God.
Lent is ultimately about renewal. By depending on God in both the big challenges and the small daily pressures, we allow Him to strengthen and guide us. In doing so, we grow in both the physical and the spiritual.

Year 12 Jersey Presentation - A Milestone Moment
Year 12 Jersey Presentation - A Milestone Moment
On Friday 20 February, Year 12 gathered in the atrium to receive their long-awaited jerseys, marking a significant milestone in their final year of school. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students came together to celebrate this special coming-of-age moment.
Mr Vassallo addressed the cohort, offering words of advice and wisdom as they step into their roles as the senior leaders of the school. He spoke about responsibility, unity, and the importance of setting a positive example for younger students. His message reminded Year 12 that wearing the jersey is not only a privilege, but also a symbol of leadership and commitment.
One by one, students were called to the front of the assembly to proudly receive their jerseys. As each name was announced, cheers and applause rang through the atrium, highlighting the strong sense of community within the year group.
The Year 12 jersey represents more than just a uniform item, it symbolises the culmination of years of hard work, friendships, and shared experiences. Jerseys are to be worn on school grounds, and students are encouraged to wear them often and wear them proudly as a reflection of their journey and their important role within the school.
The presentation was a memorable occasion for the Class of 2026, one that will undoubtedly remain a highlight of their final year.
