From the Headmaster
The HSC wrapped up last Friday and the Class of 2025 looked overjoyed as they walked out. Congratulations to
Benjamin Chocron
as his Extension 2 English writing has been shortlisted for publishing in the Young Writers Showcase - a first here at Redfield. Well done Ben and his great teacher
Mr Martin Fitzgerald
.
Three weeks to go and the sigh and sense of relief was palpable as the Year 10’s concluded their final exams and minimum standards tests. They are off now on two weeks work experience and then their service and life skills week here at school. Next up for exams will be Years 7 to 9. We have been focusing on the mottos about preparation and effort being the key to achieving results that are our personal best. Good luck boys.
On Friday 31st October, we celebrated World Teachers Day, an opportunity for students and parents to show heartfelt gratitude to the educators who guide and inspire learning every day. Teachers play a crucial role in shaping not only academic success but also character and confidence. By expressing appreciation - whether through words, notes, or simple gestures - families acknowledge the dedication, patience, and care teachers invest in every child’s growth. This recognition strengthens the bond between home and school, reminding us that education thrives when teachers feel valued and supported.
On giving thanks, it is always good to give thanks for many things that we have and have been given. This week, we are focusing on Community Service with our St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper appeal. Our boys are being extremely generous in donating articles that will be used to assist people experiencing disadvantage and hardship. Their generosity is much appreciated.
Finally, congratulations to
Mr Colin Lai
and our senior volleyball team,
Benicio Gutierrez
,

Year 8 to 10, 2026 House Captains
On Wednesday, 5 November we had the privilege of commissioning our Year 8 to 10 House Captains for 2026 at our School Assembly.
Thank you to all students who applied for these leadership positions. It takes great confidence and courage to do so. I was so impressed by the number and calibre of candidates. We truly have a great depth of leadership potential at the College.
Congratulations to the following students who have been appointed as House Captains of their respective houses for 2026:

I wish these new House Captains all the best as they begin their journey of leadership. I have every confidence that they will do a fantastic job leading their houses and year groups.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hampers
As mentioned in our last newsletter, Redfield will continue its long standing tradition of supporting the
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper Appeal
. The generosity of our College over the years has made a significant difference to the lives of many, bringing joy and relief to families struggling to make ends meet during the Christmas season.
As part of our Christmas Hamper Appeal, our Redfield Mission & Service Team has put together two activities:
Donation of items
: Each class/year group has been allocated specific items to bring to school to contribute to our Christmas Hampers to ensure that hampers have a good range of items for those receiving them. These items are listed on the next page.
- Primary students are to bring their donated items to school during Weeks 4 to 8 and place them in the boxes in their classrooms.
- Secondary students are to bring their items to school on Wednesday, 3 December (Week 8) for collection by students from our Mission & Service Team. It would be appropriate that older students contribute in some way to the cost of these items so that they may experience the importance of the spirit of giving.
Due to health regulations, St Vincent de Paul has requested that food donations do not contain peanuts and are not past their best before or use by dates.
Mufti Day on Wednesday, 3 December (Week 8)
: On this day, all boys in Years 2 to 11 are to come to school in casual clothes and bring a gold-coin donation. All proceeds will be donated to St Vincent de Paul to assist those in need this Christmas season.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. Your contributions will bring hope and happiness to many families who are struggling this Christmas.

A Wonderful Exhibition Honouring St Carlo Acutis and St Pier Giorgio Frassati
A Wonderful Exhibition Honouring St Carlo Acutis and St Pier Giorgio Frassati
Last week, our school was blessed to host a beautiful exhibition celebrating the lives of two inspiring young saints: St Carlo Acutis and St Pier Giorgio Frassati . The event was lovingly organised by a dedicated group of mums, whose care and attention to detail created a truly uplifting atmosphere for all who attended.
The highlight of the exhibition was the presence of a
first-class relic of St Carlo Acutis
, giving students and staff a rare opportunity for prayer and reflection in the presence of one of today’s most beloved modern saints. The display featured detailed panels of the
Eucharistic Miracles
compiled by St Carlo himself—an impressive showcase of his passion for the Eucharist and his gift for using technology to spread the faith.
The exhibition drew a wonderful turnout from across the school community. Students showed genuine curiosity and reverence as they explored the displays, learning how both St Carlo and St Pier Giorgio lived lives of deep faith, joy, and service while still so young. Many of the boys were particularly captivated by the stories of Eucharistic Miracles and by St Pier Giorgio’s example of courage and compassion.
We are deeply grateful to
Mr Milad Khalil
and the following mums who made this exhibition possible -
Mrs Cindy El-Sabbagh
,
Mrs Natalie Kazzi
,
Mrs Joyce Bazouni
and
Mrs Rimi Khalil
. It was a grace-filled occasion that reminded us all of the power of holiness in youth—and how ordinary lives, lived with extraordinary love for God, can inspire a new generation of saints.

Vinnies Van
Vinnies Van
On Friday, 7 November, I had the absolute privilege of participating in the Ryde Vinnies Van. Alongside
Ben Bowen,
Jack Marcelo
and
Logan D’Silva
. We travelled to two locations in Gladesville to feed the less fortunate who were living in community housing. We provided them with coffee and hot chocolate, as well as a variety of snacks and sandwiches. We met many people from all walks of life who shared their stories and life advice. This experience really put into perspective how fortunate we are, as Redfield Boys, to have a roof over our heads and a pantry full of food. It was really heartwarming to see the positive effect that we had on these people by providing them with food and drink. I believe what truly brightened these people’s day wasn’t just the food and drinks we provided, but the meaningful conversations we shared with them. On behalf of myself and the boys I can say that this experience was extremely fulfilling and would strongly recommend it to those who may be considering doing Vinnies Van in the future. A big thank you to
Mr David Vassallo
and
Fr Phil Elias
, who offered up their night to accompany us.

Year 5 Father and Son Camp at The "Y" Yarramundi
Year 5 Father and Son Camp at The "Y" Yarramundi
On the first of November, our Year 5 boys and their dads headed out for an unforgettable camp at The 'Y' Yarramundi, filled with laughter and adventure. The two-day camp offered families the chance to connect through exciting outdoor activities such as bush-walking, archery, high rope activities and campfire chats.
These are some of the reviews of the experience. “It was awesome spending time away with my dad” said Noah. “It was awesome, one of the best weekends I've had” added Luke.
“It was a lot of fun, and sometimes crazy” admitted a sleep deprived Amadeus.
“My dad and I loved archery and the big swing!” shared Max.
Teachers were thrilled to see the friendships that developed with the boys (dads included) throughout the weekend — a wonderful reminder of the importance of family time, adventure, and connection without screens.

Redfield Students Experience Japan: A Journey of Learning and Friendship
Redfield Students Experience Japan: A Journey of Learning and Friendship
Five Redfield College students Leo Solis , Thomas Masina , Kevan Ranaweera , Enea Daniel , and Amaan Abdul-Razak recently returned from an unforgettable two-week cultural exchange in Japan . The boys spent most of their stay at Seido Mikawadai High School in Nagasaki , our long-standing sister school, and also ventured to Hiroshima for a two-day side trip.
During their time at Seido , the boys were warmly welcomed by their host families, who opened their homes and hearts to them. They quickly immersed themselves in Japanese daily life, from enjoying traditional meals to commuting to school like local students.
At Seido, the Redfield boys delivered engaging presentations about life in Australia, sharing what it’s like to study at Redfield College, aspects of Australian culture, and a few light-hearted fun facts about our country. Their Japanese peers embraced the opportunity to learn from them, and lasting friendships were soon formed. The students also took part in a range of enriching activities including cooking classes, sports sessions, and Japanese language lessons giving them a first-hand understanding of Japanese school life and culture.
A highlight of the trip was the visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum , where history was brought vividly to life. The experience left a deep impression on the students, as they learned about the resilience, strength, and determination of the Japanese people who rebuilt their lives after the devastation of World War II.
Outside of school hours, the boys embraced everyday Japanese life exploring the streets of Nagasaki, visiting local shops, and enjoying their daily stops at 7-Eleven and FamilyMart. These simple moments became cherished memories that deepened their appreciation for Japanese culture and community.
The trip not only strengthened the bond between Redfield College and Seido Mikawadai High School, but also fostered personal growth, intercultural understanding, and lifelong friendships.
“We experienced so much — the kindness of our host families, the history, the food, and the beauty of Japan. It’s something we’ll never forget”
The Redfield community is proud of Leo, Thomas, Kevan, Enea, and Amaan for representing our school with maturity, curiosity, and respect. Their journey to Japan was a true example of learning beyond the classroom and the power of friendship across cultures.

The Open's Cricket Season: A Comeback to Remember
The Open's Cricket Season: A Comeback to Remember
What a season it’s been for the Open’s cricket team! Out of five hard-fought games, we came away with a proud
two wins
. From training afternoons to match days, from the nets to the bus rides, this season was thoroughly sought after by all the boys.
Every week brought its own challenges, tough opponents, long innings, and those unpredictable cricket moments that test everyone. But win or lose, we showed up and played the sport we love. We trained hard every Tuesday, with a special shout-out to
Mr Tom Ragell
, who assisted in refining our team and individual skills, and another shout-out to Coach
Daryl Castellino
and Coach
Nipun Dayasena
, who helped us through each game during the week.
And let’s be honest, the bus rides were a highlight all on their own. Everyone together blasting Punjabi beats, getting pumped up before each game, that’s where half the magic happened. Those bus rides really set us up for the game.
Winning two out of five games is no small feat. Each victory was earned through grit, teamwork, and a belief in one another. Everyone had their moment, a big wicket, a clutch boundary, good fielding, and together got a bit sunburnt, but I think I was the only one copping the burn every week. Shoutout to
Yuvidhu Kariapperuma
, our Captain for the season, who batted exceptionally, hitting massive boundaries effortlessly. He truly led by example on and off the field. We call him our very own Rishta prospect!
As we look toward the next season, the excitement is already building. With the momentum we’ve created, the team is looking strong for the future years to come.
Marcus Alloggia, Year 12

Wiburd Shield
Wiburd Shield
Our Junior Cricket team, made up of boys from Years 6 to 9, faced our brother school, Wollemi, in a knockout match of the Wiburd Shield, a coincidental and exciting draw between the two schools.
In a tightly contested game, Redfield posted 210 runs, with an outstanding 138 from
Yuvidhu Kariapperuma
. Wollemi fought hard but were bowled out for 186, giving Redfield the win by 24 runs.
A great team effort and a well-deserved victory to kick off our Wiburd Shield campaign.

Vivan Shines at WSCC Cricket Carnival
Vivan Shines at WSCC Cricket Carnival
During the recent term 3 break, Year 6 student
Vivan Dixit
delivered an outstanding performance at the
WSCC Cricket Carnival
, a four-day, 50-over tournament. He represented the
Hills Hawks
in the
U14 Division 2
category, which featured a competitive mix of Division 1 and Division 2 players from associations including Blacktown, Parramatta, SJSCCA, Northern District, and HK&HDCA.
Throughout the carnival, Vivan bowled with impressive consistency, taking on 8–10 over spells in every match. His efforts placed him as the
second-highest wicket taker
in the entire competition, narrowly missing the top spot.
Some of Vivan’s standout bowling figures included:
- 3 wickets for 16 runs in 8 overs (opening match)
- 4 wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs (final match)
We congratulate Vivan on his excellent achievements and commend his hard work, sportsmanship, and commitment to the game. His performance is a wonderful reflection of his developing character, talent and growth.
U15s AICES Tennis
U15s AICES Tennis
On 7 November, Luka Reljanovic competed at the Association of Independent Co-Educational Schools (AICES) U15 Tennis Tournament at Parramatta Tennis Centre.
The draw included strong players from schools across NSW, so every match asked something different of him.
Across the day, Luka played seven round-robin matches, winning six. He adjusted well under pressure and stayed composed even in close moments. That consistency earned him a spot in the final.
In the final, he faced Luke L and controlled the match from the start. Luka’s serving and shot placement gave him the edge, finishing with a clear 4 - 0 win to claim the title.
A fantastic achievement and a reward for his hard work and discipline.
Nick Georgiou, Head of Sport

Volleyball
Volleyball
We got to Redfield by 6:45am to meet a super-pumped team. From there, we carpooled, chatting about strategies and gameplay along the way. As we made our way inside, the place was buzzing with enthusiasm and boys from a range of school. We started warming up with Mr. Moore. Right before our first game, Mr. Lai strode in for a pre-game talk.
At the start of the day, we were a bit unsure what we were going to achieve; since we hadn’t really trained, but we didn’t give up. As the day went on, Mr. Lai said we were really starting to show potential (which was very encouraging). Even though we weren’t the best team there, we still made the others work for their wins, which felt like a win for us. By the end of the day, I think we’d really impressed ourselves and Mr Volleyball; Mr. Lai.
Big thanks to
Mr. Colin Lai
and
Mr. Nicholas Georgiou
for giving us the opportunity.

BNSW State Tournament
BNSW State Tournament
On the 11–12 November, the Primary Redfield Basketball team competed at the BNSW State Championships. The boys played against some of the best schools in the state with teams travelling from all across NSW, including as far as Orange!
They fought hard and progressed to the quarter-finals but unfortunately fell just short, with the opposition hitting a clutch shot in the final two seconds.
We congratulate everyone who has supported the team from the parents who have helped train the boys, to
Mrs Kathleen Parker
, who has assisted with scoring at all of our tournaments.
Despite the loss, the boys were all smiles at the end.
