On Thursday 4 June (Week 7) our Year 9 will attend the Stand Tall Conference in Sydney to support our Redfield men to develop their character and wellbeing.

Stand Tall brings a host of high-quality speakers together on the one day with the aim of growing students’ resilience, strength and motivation and developing the power of perspective to make positive life choices. Speakers include:

Jessica Watson (OAM): Jessica made history at 16 as the youngest person to sail solo, nonstop around the world, spending 210 days alone at sea. A bestselling author, Netflix film subject, and Young Australian of the Year, she’s since skippered the youngest crew in the Sydney to Hobart race, represented the UN World Food Programme, co-founded marine start-up Deckee.com , and completed an MBA. Jessica continues to inspire as an author and sought-after corporate speaker, proving that with courage and determination, anything is possible.

Michael Crossland: Michael has defied the odds of a life-threatening cancer to build a life of achievements as an accomplished businessman and an elite sportsman. His message of hope and overcoming adversity has seen Michael invited back year after year to Stand Tall. Michael is an amazing speaker who has the ability to captivate the imagination of young people to encourage and inspire them with his story.

On Friday 22 May, I and our Head of Primary, Mr Darren Corke had the pleasure of accompanying a number of our senior Redfield students who gave up their Friday night to assist those in need through participating in the Ryde Vinnies Van. These students were: James T (Year 12), Andrew B (Year 11), and Kevan R (Year 11).

Despite the inclement weather, this did not dampen the boys’ spirits. They greeted all those who gathered with a warm smile, a hot drink, and sandwiches. More importantly, our students engaged in lively conversation with those gathered on a range of topics from sport, hobbies, and life experiences. It is this social connection that is so important. The boys did a fantastic job showing great compassion and empathy to everyone they met.

NSW Health will offer vaccinations to all Year 7 students on Tuesday, 9 June 2026

Year 7 – Diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis (dTpa) and Human Papillomavirus vaccine (HPV)
Also; Year 8 – HPV and dTpa (those who missed it in Year 7)
Year 10 – Meningococcal ACWY (if not given at previous clinic)

To have your child vaccinated at school, you need to give your permission (consent) either online or by filling out and returning the paper consent form.

2. Read the school vaccination program information. Translations are available. Please refer to the NSW Health webpage https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/immunisation/Pages/school_vaccination_language.aspx
3. When the online consent is completed, you receive an SMS and email acknowledgment.

Vaccines

dTpa vaccine is the adolescent booster dose against whooping cough (pertussis), tetanus and diphtheria. It’s recommended at age 11-13 years old even if your child has had whooping cough.
HPV vaccine protects against HPV-related cancers, warts and other illnesses that can affect everyone. These HPV-related cancers include 60% of cancers of the throat, tonsils and tongue, many genital and anal cancers for both men and women and almost all cervical cancers. Only one dose of HPV vaccine is required.

"Why fit in when you were born to stand out?"

This powerful quote comes from the world-renowned American author and illustrator, Dr. Seuss. Although simple, the message behind it is quite profound.

Everyone on earth is different and has their own unique character traits and talents to offer the world. With the new wave of toxic masculinity and pressures from social media, notably “looksmaxxing”, it is easy to fall into the trap of conformity within modern society, especially as a young adolescent blossoming into manhood. God created us in His own image and likeness to know him, to love him, and to serve him. God purposefully made us distinct from one another.

The reward for being authentic and genuine is far greater than the superficial and shallow nature of friendships built upon peer pressure. In this day and age, it is only natural to feel peer pressure, but the true measure of a man is how he responds to it. It takes confidence to stand out. It takes courage to confront the crowd and oppose social pressures. Nothing good in life comes easy, and this applies especially to facing social pressures.

The world doesn’t need more people pretending to be someone they’re not.

It needs people who are confident enough to be themselves, brave enough to oppose public opinion, and strong enough to stand out when it matters most.

Let me leave you with this. If everyone acted the same, what would the world look like?

On 16-17 May, Redfield took part in its first Relay For Life, with a dedicated group of Year 11 and 12 boys and Mr Oliver Foxe proudly representing the College. Relay For Life is a 24-hour fundraising event organised by Cancer Council to raise awareness and funds for cancer treatment and research.

In the spirit of the event, the team raised more than $3000 for the cause. Across the duration of the relay, the team also ran a combined total of more than 550 km, highlighted by a strong 144 km effort by Mr Foxe.

Overall, the relay was a brilliant display of grit, determination, charity, and teamwork, with the Redfield community showing its unique support throughout. A special shoutout to the numerous parents and students who dropped in during the event to support the team and help us make it through the tough early morning hours. Redfield's first Relay For Life proved to be a meaningful and memorable experience, and we look forward to making it a yearly tradition.

Daniel and Louis-Thomas were fortunate enough this year to be selected as part of a team of 21 students to lead and represent Redfield at the NSW School of Languages as language ambassadors. As part of their selection, they were invited to the school on the 11 May for a ceremony celebrating their achievement. Following the ceremony, they attended a morning tea with their parents and the other language ambassadors, enjoying the opportunity to socialise and share some delicious food together.

For the remainder of the day, various language teachers trained the students for their new role as ambassadors. Daniel and Louis-Thomas are both very grateful for the opportunity they have been given and look forward to promoting language learning within their community.

On Thursday, 21 May, a number of Redfield students competed in the Hills Zone Cross Country at the Equestrian Centre. It was a beautiful day, and the boys were full of excitement as they took on their events.

All competitors performed well, with several outstanding results on the day. Three students have progressed to the next level: Tobias G (5B), who finished 3rd, Elijah M (6B), who placed 8th, and Matteo J (3B), who narrowly missed a podium finish, coming 4th.

Congratulations to all the boys who competed and gave their best effort. A special thank you to the parents for organising transport and enthusiastically supporting the students throughout the day.

We wish Matteo, Tobias and Elijah all the very best in the next stage—we know they will represent Redfield with pride.

A 7:00am departure saw our students head to the Sydney International Equestrian Centre for the annual HZSA Cross Country Carnival.

The effort and attitude of the entire team throughout the day was outstanding. A special mention goes to our Year 12 boys, who set the tone early with an excellent performance in the opening event of the day, the 8km race.

We are proud to announce that Redfield has finished as the best performing school at the HZSA Cross Country Carnival for the second consecutive year. This achievement reflects the consistency, commitment and culture built within Redfields Sport & PDHPE program across Primary and Secondary.

A big thank you must also go to our Primary and Secondary PE teachers, along with Mr Oliver Foxe, for the time and effort they invest in training and preparing students year in, year out.

Redfield students recently competed in the Secondary Schoolboys Challenge Cup Table Tennis Championship, with teams represented across the Junior, Intermediate and Senior divisions. Throughout the day, students displayed excellent sportsmanship, teamwork and determination while competing against strong opposition from a range of schools.

In the Junior division, Felix Y, Ethan G, Sayan M, Ahan B, Ayan B, Ansh P, Avash P and Bostin S all represented the College with enthusiasm and resilience. In the Intermediate division, Hrishaan R, Dylan T, Yuvraj S , Yuvidhu K, Jacob R and Jonah H competed strongly in a highly competitive field.

In the Senior division, Sebastian L and Jonah E narrowly missed progressing to a medal match, finishing just one knockout match away from contention in what was a very competitive performance.

Congratulations to all students involved for their excellent efforts and the manner in which they represented the College throughout the championship.

The Junior White Basketball team claimed the Hills Zone Basketball Division 2 Championship with a hard-fought 22-21 victory over Hills Adventist College in a thrilling Grand Final.

After a tough and physical first half, the boys went into the break trailing 14-12. Despite the pressure, the team remained composed, lifted their defensive intensity, and fought their way back into the contest.

The second half was a nail-biting battle, with both teams defending strongly and every possession proving important. The boys showed resilience, teamwork, and determination in the closing stages to edge ahead and secure the 22-21 win.

I could not be prouder of the effort and commitment shown by the team during the final. The boys represented the College exceptionally well and deserved the result after a courageous performance.

Congratulations on an outstanding season in the HZSA Junior Basketball Competition. Our Junior Red team finished second and Junior Blue finished third in Division 1, while Junior White took out the Division 2 title.

These results highlight the strength of basketball at Redfield. Credit must go to James Marcelo , everyone involved in the Redfield Basketball Club’s domestic basketball program, and our Primary and Secondary PDHPE staff.

Most importantly, credit goes to the boys themselves for consistently pushing each other to improve and compete at a high level each week.

Players are now required to return their basketball jerseys to the PDHPE/Sport Department and have their name marked off. Players may keep their shorts or return them to contribute to our second-hand HZSA sport uniform stock.

We hope to see our Year 8 students continue their basketball journey in the Intermediate competition next season, and our Year 7 students return for another strong season in the Junior competition.

A big thank you also to all of our coaches for their time, effort, and commitment throughout the season. Your guidance and support played a major role in the development and success of these teams.

On Wednesday, 20 May, our school’s Junior and Senior Basketball teams headed out to compete in the highly anticipated Northwest Basketball competition. Facing off against some incredibly tough opposition, both teams showed immense grit, determination, and true school spirit throughout the day.

Each team played four grueling games, experiencing a rollercoaster of ups and downs.

• The Juniors (led by Mr Zhang) : Fought their way through the rounds with fantastic teamwork, earning themselves a well-deserved spot in the Grand Final. In a nail-biting finish, they just missed out on the top spot, finishing as runners-up after a hard-fought battle against St Bernadette’s.
• The Seniors (led by Mr Dayasena) : Displayed brilliant skill and leadership on the court, battling hard to reach the Semi-Finals before bowing out to a strong William Clarke College side.

A Note on the Day : It was clear to everyone watching just how much this tournament meant to the boys. Every single player put in a monumental effort, and it was fantastic to witness such fight, passion, and sportsmanship from start to finish.

Congratulations to both teams for your effort, sportsmanship, and dedication throughout the tournament. A special thank you to Mrs Parker, who always supports the boys from the bench and helps keep score. We definitely couldn’t do it without you!
