Earlier this term at our KPF, I communicated with all families regarding our Perspectives Survey, which was carried out last year. The results highlighted a strong, values-driven culture within the school community, with high participation from parents, students and staff.
Parents expressed great pride in the school, with many actively promoting it among family, friends and neighbours. The survey also showed that parents and staff strongly believe in Redfield’s core principles that permeate all we do. Students demonstrated a strong commitment to personal and academic growth, showing confidence in hard work and valuing partnerships with parents, teachers and mentors. More importantly, they believe in the College's crucial role in developing their faith.
I’m very grateful for the feedback from parents, teachers, and students. While the results were overwhelmingly positive, the survey also identified areas for improvement, and we remain committed to enhancing the learning environment and addressing these potential areas of concern. Your feedback is invaluable to our constant efforts to improve - Redfield is a place where the saying "better never sleeps!" truly applies.
Today, we farewell Mrs Minsun Suoand Mr George Varrica. George has been a wonderful asset in our Primary school and a really important mentor to many of our staff here at Redfield. It has been so great to see his work with students and families. Thanks, George, and we wish you all the best in your new ventures. Minsun leaves us after 23 years of absolute dedication and commitment to Redfield and PARED. During her time at Redfield College, Minsun has been an integral part of our team, demonstrating unwavering professionalism, exceptional organisational skills and a warm, welcoming demeanour that we have all come to value deeply. From ensuring the smooth operation of the Headmaster's office and administrative function for the school (for which I and previous Headmasters are especially grateful) to supporting countless events and initiatives, Minsun has left a lasting impact on our school community. Please join me in wishing Minsun all the best for the future and thanking her for her remarkable contributions to our school.
Finally, I ask for your prayers for Lucy Tudehope(Tangara Class of 2017), daughter of Damien and Diane Tudehope. Lucy is facing a significant health crisis at this time and needs our community support. There have been many prayer vigils organised with this in mind. Damien and Diane, who are founding parents of the PARED system, have been big supporters of all we do here for a long time. Let’s unite our Lenten practices to this intention.

New Reading Program: Renaissance Reading
Redfield College has introduced a new reading program called Renaissance Reading. Students in Years 2 to 10 will first be assessed on their reading level and then they will borrow a book from the Library based on their reading level. Students will then be given an opportunity to read daily for 20 minutes. Once a student completes reading his book, he will then have to sit an online test to demonstrate that he has understood the book. The daily reading program will start for all students in Term 2.
Mr Pavlovic explaining the Renaissance Reading Program to Year 8 in the Library.
NAPLAN 2025
This year’s NAPLAN ran very smoothly in Weeks 6 and 7. The Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students were very happy with the four tests (Reading, Writing, Conventions of Language and Numeracy) that they had to sit. We welcome their results later on in the year, as this will give us a good indication of the areas of strength and areas for improvement needed for all students. Thanks to Mr Nolanand Mr Langfrom the IT Department for their assistance in ensuring that NAPLAN ran without any problems.
Theology of the Body Program
In Years 2 to 8, we have implemented a Theology of the Body Programwhich occurs in Religious Education class once a fortnight. Parents have been given a parent guide to help facilitate conversations with their sons before they go to class each fortnight. Students in class have been looking into important questions such as:
- Why has God given me a body?
- How can I be a gift to others?
- How can I appreciate the gifts that God has given me?
- Why has God given me the gift of senses?
- How do I control my body and my actions?
Please take the time to read the relevant sections of the “Body Matters” books with your son each week. The pages to read will be communicated to you via the Classroom Teacher.
MAP Growth Assessment
Redfield College is committed to building a culture of excellence and helping each student achieve his personal best in all aspects of his education. MAP Growth is an assessment tool which helps to build a learner profile for each student so that his strengths and areas for improvement are identified and used to help him grow academically.
In Weeks 9 and 10 this term, students in Years 2 to 10 will be sitting their first MAP Growth Assessments for 2025. Once these assessments are complete, you will be notified of your son’s progress report in early Term 2.
Please also take some time to watch this short videowhich explains some of the aspects of the MAP Growth Report.
Importance of Homework
Redfield College wants every boy to do his best and grow academically. Building good habits is critical for growing in virtue, and one way to do this is for students to complete their homework each night. We will follow up on any boys who have not completed homework and ensure that they have completed it. In Secondary school, lunchtime sessions are set aside for students to finish their homework in the Library. We appreciate your support in this manner.

Lenten Appeal – 'Buckets for Breakfast’ Fundraiser for Mary’s Meals
Lenten Appeal – 'Buckets for Breakfast’ Fundraiser for Mary’s Meals
I would like to send my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported our Redfield Lenten Appeal this year. For this initiative, the Redfield Mission & Service Team has partnered with Mary’s Meals, a Catholic organisation that operates in over 16 developing countries and provides hope and sustenance to children by serving daily meals in schools. Through their work, they are able to feed over 2 million children worldwide every day.
During our last whole-school assembly, we were honored to hear from Mr Lachlan Mitchell,National Manager of Mary’s Meals. Lachlan shared valuable insights into the impactful work of Mary’s Meals and the difference it is making in the lives of children globally.
This year, our goal for the Lenten Appeal was to raise $2,000 - enough to feed 50 children for an entire year. The generosity of our school community has been extraordinary. I am delighted to announce that, by the end of Week 7 (just two weeks into our appeal), we had not only met our target but exceeded it, raising over $2,200! This remarkable achievement is a testament to the compassion of our families and students.
It was also fantastic to see such enthusiastic support for our "Shooting Buckets"fundraiser last Wednesday. With many participants testing their basketball shooting skills in a knockout competition, this was a great event. In the end, it came down to just three competitors - Daniel Londos(Year 7), Marcus Abdow(Year 8) and Sam Laoulach(Year 8). Congratulations to Sam, who was our champion shooter on the day!
In true Redfield spirit, we will not rest on our laurels. We are committed to continuing our efforts to support those in need. As such, we have several more fundraising events planned this term to further support our Mary’s Meals Lenten Appeal, including the following:
Secondary School:
- Buckets for Breakfast- Every Friday until Week 9, our Senior House Captains will continue to collect their House’s loose change during Morning Admin, with the House that raises the most money winning House points and a House reward!
- Passing Buckets Fundraiser (Week 9)– Secondary students will have the opportunity to showcase their rugby passing skills in this fun competition. For a small donation to enter, students can participate to win a prize.
Whole School:
- Blue Shirt Mufti Day and Sponge the Teacher (Week 10)– On Wednesday, 9 April, we will end our Lenten Appeal with our Blue Shirt Mufti Day and Sponge the Teacher Fundraiser. On this day, students in Years 2 to 12 are to wear a blue shirt (in honor of Our Lady’s colour) along with casual clothes to school. A gold coin donation will be collected on the day. Additionally, we will host a Sponge the Teacher fundraiser at lunchtime, where students can test their accuracy by throwing a wet sponge at a teacher for a small donation.
Thank you once again for your support of our 2025 Lenten Appeal. We are deeply grateful to all the families and students for their generosity. If you have not yet had the chance to contribute and would like to do so, we have set up an online donation platform, accessible via the link below:

It is wonderful to see the Redfield community making a meaningful difference in the lives of children through the work of Mary’s Meals.

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Awards
Last Wednesday, I had the privilege of presenting Amos Yassa (Year 12) and Hamish Aitken (Year 11) with their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Certificates at the whole-school assembly. Both young men have worked diligently on their areas of focus which for the Award entails a six-month commitment to a Service/Skill/Sport and then an Adventurous Journey. Amos chose to focus on Soccer/Driving and Teaching Assistance, while Hamish's focus was Swimming/Singing and Bush Regeneration. They should both be tremendously proud of their achievements. Both are progressing to the Gold Level of the Award, which is a resounding testament to their character.
For further information about getting your son involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, please don't hesitate to contact me by email (william.schweikert@redfield.nsw.edu.au).

Year 11 PhysX Rehab Excursion
Year 11 PhysX Rehab Excursion
On Tuesday, 25 March, the Year 11 Health & Movement Science class visited PhysXrehab in Cromer and met Luke Reid, a physio for Manly United FC. Throughout the day, Luke taught us about energy systems and sports nutrition. During these lessons, we made smoothies for an athlete before and after a marathon.
Later on, we participated in various fitness tests including the 30-15 IFT, where we ran for 30 seconds then rested for 15, increasing by 0.5 km/h after every level. Joachim Rodrigueswas our fastest runner, hitting a top speed of 22.5 km/h. We performed this test to calculate our VO2 Max score, which is a metric that can be used to train athletes for endurance running.
After that, we then used the ForceDeckstechnology that they had at the clinic, which uses a person’s body weight to work out how high they can jump off the ground. The pressure plates then calculated how we used each leg while jumping and landing. Logan D'Silvawas our highest jumper.
Overall, we all enjoyed our experience and found the learning about the body’s energy and how to nutritionally prepare for different sports really fun and interactive. Big thanks go to Mr Laifor taking us there and for helping throughout the day, and to PhysXrehab for letting us visit and use their equipment!

A key highlight of last Wednesday’s whole-school assembly was the incredible Swimming Carnival video created by Mr Perrottet. Showcasing the competitive spirit and the fun, inclusive nature of Redfield's Swimming Carnivals, his dynamic and engaging video fired up all the Houses and added to the energy of the assembly.
Castor's dominance in the pool, combined with their unwavering team spirit, saw them emerge victorious, with Castor Captain Tobin Kroeger lifting the championship trophy in front a roaring crowd. Congratulations to Castor on an unforgettable win!
