During the month of May, it is a cherished tradition in the Catholic Church to try to increase our devotion to Mary, Our Lord's Mother and our Mother. One way we do this at Redfield is by travelling on a pilgrimage every year during May.

On Friday, 29 May, Years 2, 3 and 4 visited the Franciscan Shrine of the Holy Innocents and prayed the Holy Rosary together. Each grade gathered to pray the five Sorrowful Mysteries at various locations around the grounds. It was beautiful to pray together,  the students showed great reverence. We offered our Rosaries for the students, their families, the teachers and for Redfield. The students added some petitions too, like praying for the poor, the sick, the peace in the world and the church.

Afterwards, we headed off for a few hours of fun at Ryde Aquatic Centre where the boys went down the waterslide, played on the inflatable obstacle course and swam around the rapid river. All the students had a terrific time. It was the best way to end the month of May!

2027 College Leadership applications for students in Year 10 to 12 in 2027 are now open. I have met with all Year 10 to 12, 2027 students in Week 8 to discuss the various leadership opportunities available to them. These include:

Students interested in applying for these roles are to complete a Redfield Leadership Application form by Wednesday, 22 July (Term 3, Day 1). This form along with information on each role, expectations and proposed leadership application timeline was emailed to all current Year 9-11 students on Thursday, 11 June 2025.

Following six preliminary rounds of the competition, three Redfield teams, our Year 7, 8 and 9 teams, have progressed to the knockout stage of the competition. The first round of eliminations already took place on Wednesday, 10 June, when the aforementioned teams travelled to St Paul's Catholic College, Greystanes. All three teams won, meaning that they’ve made it through to the next round of elimination on 17 June, taking place at Redfield College.

We are delighted to be able to host visiting debaters from four other schools, as indicated in the table below. The coin tosses will begin at 4:45pm, which means that the debates themselves will start soon after 5:45pm.

Congratulations to Hendricks, who represented the NSWCIS Boys Basketball team at the NSWPSSA Boys Basketball Championships, held in Port Macquarie from 19 to 22 May 2026 and returned home a state champion.

Earning selection in the Combined Independent Schools team is a remarkable achievement in its own right. The pathway is a demanding one, with players progressing through school, association and CIS-level trials against the strongest primary school basketballers in the independent school system. To make the final squad, Hendricks had to impress selectors at every stage, a testament to his skill, composure and hard work on the court.

The NSWPSSA Championships bring together the best representative teams from every school sporting association across the state, and the standard of competition in Port Macquarie was exceptional. Over four days of intense basketball, the CIS boys tested themselves against quality opposition in every game, showing great teamwork, discipline and determination throughout the tournament. Their efforts were rewarded in the best possible way: the team capped off a brilliant campaign by winning the NSWPSSA Championship, confirming them as the top primary schoolboys' basketball team in NSW.

Representing CIS at a state championship is an experience Hendricks will remember for years to come and to do so as part of a championship-winning team makes it all the more special. Congratulations, Hendricks, on an outstanding achievement. The whole school community is incredibly proud of you, and we can't wait to see where your basketball journey takes you next.

On Wednesday, 10 June, three Redfield College students proudly represented both our school and the Hills Zone Sporting Association (HZSA) at the 2026 NSWCIS Primary Boys Rugby Union Trials held at Woollahra Oval, Rose Bay.

Congratulations to Samuel E (Year 5) , Elijah M (Year 6) and Jackson D (Year 6) on earning selection to attend these prestigious trials. Their selection alone is a significant achievement and recognition of their commitment, skill and performances throughout the representative rugby season.

The day began with skill-based assessments conducted by NSW Rugby officials, with players rotating through specialised stations. Following these sessions, trialists participated in a series of round-robin matches, providing selectors with the opportunity to assess players in game situations.

The standard of rugby was exceptionally high, with approximately 75–80 of the best Year 5 and Year 6 players from across the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) network competing for selection. Following the initial trials, the field was narrowed to a Possibles versus Probables match featuring just 34 players. From there, selectors chose the final NSWCIS Primary Rugby Union squad of only 22 players. While Samuel, Elijah and Jackson were not selected in the final stages, they should be immensely proud of their efforts and the way they represented Redfield College throughout the day.

NSWCIS trials form part of the representative pathway that can lead to state and national honours, making selection to attend these trials a significant accomplishment in itself. The experience of competing against some of the state's most talented young rugby players will undoubtedly benefit the boys as they continue their rugby journey.

A special thank you to Mr Corey Rawlings for his dedication in coordinating representative sport opportunities for our students and for helping provide pathways such as the NSWCIS trials. Opportunities of this calibre are invaluable for the development of our young athletes, and we are grateful for his efforts in ensuring our boys had the chance to compete at this level.

We congratulate Samuel, Elijah and Jackson on their achievements and thank them for representing Redfield College with determination, sportsmanship and pride.

In front of a decent crowd at Hills Grammar, the boys deservedly took a 1-0 lead through a tidy finish from Daniel L . Despite dominating possession, they somehow found themselves trailing 2-1 after an unfortunate handball penalty and a header from a corner.

The boys showed plenty of fight and resilience. Daniel L levelled the scores with a superb strike from 20 yards out, cutting in from the left wing onto his right foot before placing it into the top right corner, to make it 2-2.

Just a few minutes later, Isaiah S scored a precision volley into the bottom left corner to put Redfield ahead 3-2.

Well done to the boys and to Mr Michael Alvir . I'd also like to thank Mr Leo Carol for coming up and supporting the team and taking some ripper photos!
